I'm new to the Buell so not sure if this is normal or not. Every morning when I start my 12Ss I have to start it twice. The first time it starts, stumbles and shuts off. Second attempt is usually good. Sometimes takes a third try on colder days. I don't touch the throttle when startin it. Everything I have ever owned that is fuel injected just starts right away.

Dont give it gas, the cold start enrichment is dumping fuel and if you give it gas you will flood it or foul a plug. V twins hate the cold so its normal to have a hard time. Like tuneport said wait until the fuel pump primes and hit the start button. If your running a heavy motor oil for the summer and its cold in the mornings it will give you those problems. You could try running a thinner synthetic oil will help. If your bike is new and still breaking in it is very common. I had the same problem until my first service.

Still breaking it in. First service in a week. Going with synthetic then. I always wait for the pump to stop and I never touch the throttle. I'll wait till after the first service to see what happens

I have the same issue with my 09 scg. I assumed I fouled the plugs when I first got it, before I knew not to short run cycle it when cold. I'm going to change the plugs at the first service.

I idle it for 3-5 minutes after startup. The bike has been like this since the first day I had it home.

Gear up, Start it, then ride easy first couple of miles, and then you can nail it - otherwise you'll probably find you're fouling plugs over time. A minute or less is plenty long to idle at startup.

If you've got a Pre-'08 bike, check your idle rpm, it may be a tad low - should be around 1000-1050 rpms. Have you got Iridium plugs - great foul resistance.

Mine is a new 09. Its going in for its first service next week. I'll mention it to the dealer and see what he says.....based on other stories from them I don't anticipate a positive responce from them. may see if I can find a set of iridiums for it.....what is the part number for the plugs?

NGK Iridiums - DCPR9EIX. Auto Parts stores probably won't stock, but can order upon request. Hope you get it sorted.

Just ordered a set of plugs. Now to wait to see what the Stealership says on Monday. It will be sorted one whay or another. I have 7 years of warantee.
