There are some scratches on the fairings. What is the best way of sanding these down and buffing them out?

Its plastic...replace it.

Don't really feel like replacing it. I would much rather try and fix it. If something is broken to the point beyond fixing. Then I would replace it. I have been told though that they can be fixed. Just curious on how one would go about it.

there's a plastic polish out there, like: novus

Ya, i'm aware of the polish.

Do you just sand down the plastic then untill it is smooth/even and buff it out to the shine?

noooooooo...

just use the novis, there are directions on the bottle.
you'll never get the shine back once you sand it down

plastic has no varnish, so no sanding at all!!!
