Hey everyone, I just bought my first motorcycle, a 2007 Buell Lightning XB12s!
It's really exciting but it didn't come with a service manual so does anyone know which oil to use and how much?? Also, if anyone knows where I can download a copy of the service and owners manuals.

Any tips, maintenance, advice, or tricks to this super cool bike are much appreciated.

welcome to buellxb and congrats on the bike.
there is a link at the top of the page for service manuals.
the most common oils used by members are amsoil and mobil1 20/50 weight used in both the engine and primary.

you chose wisely, son.
what brian said above and hoping this has the makings of yet another "oil discussion" which i truly love and adore.
swingarm takes 2.5 quarts with filter change
trans/primary share same fluid and takes 1 quart with full drain
trans/primary and swingarm drain plugs are interchangeable. check O-ring for condition prior to reinstall, clean magnet on each drain plug well, not unusual to see hairy looking shavings on each magnet. do NOT put any type of sealant or teflon tape on plug threads....the O-ring is the sealing surface.
i prefer 20-50 amsoil motorcycle oil in the primary and any top quality 20-50 cycle oil in the swingarm though many on here use shell rotella-T 15-40 which is also great.
want a cheap filter readily available at any shit-mart store? 2007 and up Toyota Yaris 1.5L filter fits all Buell XB's.

Congrats on the bike, lots of help on this forum. Yeah I also use Amsoil 20w50 Full Synthetic this is just my preference and I don't sell it,but if you only need weight its 20W50. Don't need a heated discussion on your first post. Some people get a little defensive about there oils.

As someone who just picked up their first Buell ('04 XB12S) on 9/11, I really appreciate all of the great info that's already been posted. I just spent the morning out and about on my XB and it's everything I could have hoped for. I just hope that I can live up to IT'S expectations lol.

Ok, here's one I took a couple of hours ago!

Nice except for that tiny little dent in header. "Critics"
Looks like you were doing a photo day, really cool pic.

Thanks, I wasn't out to take pictures specifically, I took this with my phone. That being said, I have had some experience behind a camera, so I suppose that may show through subconsciously lol.

As far as the dent goes...I guess 12 years of marriage has me overlooking the little imperfections that pop up here and there. ;)

mizzle and Q-jet: tons of great info on this board but as a formal disclaimer and warning, beware a man who lurks on here by the name of "Lesley". he is known for authoring torque wrench jibberish, oil recommendations and other assorted hog-wash. The man has been involved in criminal activity since a toddler.....see pic below. just a heads-up to new members.

Thank you guys for all the great and prompt responses. I'm posting from my iPad and it won't let me upload a pic, I surely will when I get to my laptop though. I can tell this is gonna be a great community of XB owners, and I'm lookin forward to it.

Currently I ride alone which is cool but on the occasion that I'd like to ride with someone does anyone know how to go about that in or around Milwaukee WI?

Most of what he says he is true aside from the fact that in the picture he posted I was in a borrowed Mustang.
Much like torque wrenches I have no use or desire to own a ford..LOL
And btw lunatic John do you not have a mule that needs shoeing?
