Ok, so today I took my first real ride on my 2000 X1. I took a short ride when I bought it to make sure it was working but I hadn't really taken it out. I finally got it fully registered so I went around town to feel it out and I thought I'd post my initial thoughts.

1. Really heavy clutch
- I'm guessing this is just because it hasn't been lubed in a while. I have some silicone based lube that I think would work. What do you guys think? Either that or I just need to beef my hands up, haha.

2. Holy crap this thing has balls
- 2nd gear is my favorite so far. Above a couple thousand RPM this thing really pulls. It's way fun but I have to control my itchy throttle hand, haha

3. Loud
- The Vance & Hines pipe is awesome. The sound is eargasmic and it really gets attention

4. Vibration
- I knew these bikes had a lot of character but this thing shakes like a banshee. Not that I'm complaining I've just never experienced it before.

5. Brakes
- The front brake feel pretty strong, maybe a little grabby but I was really wanting more from the rear brake. I had to really get on it to have a relatively equal force to the front.
These are just a few initial thoughts. But the verdict? I LOVE IT. Definitely the most fun bike I've ever ridden. Not that I have a ton of experience but I've ridden a few. I can't wait to get some open road so I can really ring her out. Don't want to attract the wrong kind of attention (read: local enforcement) to myself.

1. The clutch on Buell's are a bit heavier than other bikes I've found, I'd lube it up just in case if it was me however

2. Yes!

3. Yes!

4. Yes!

5. The rear brake is much weaker than your front to begin with. Most of your braking power is in your front brakes anyway. You could bleed the system and/or replace the pads/rotor as well

Yeah, I was expecting the rear to be weaker. But it really felt weak in comparison to the other bikes I've ridden. I think I'm going to bleed them and start with fresh fluids. It's not a bad idea with a new-to-me anyhow and I'm not losing anything. The pads looked ok but maybe they're just not great to begin with. [confused]

Sounds like you had fun... The clutch is heavy but you will get used to it over time. They do sell a kit that is supposed to soften the clutch up by 40% but I have never tried one....

As far as the back brake... its extremely weak and will not get better. When i first got my X1, that was one of my complaints. I bleed the brakes, i put on new pads, i rebuilt the master and caliper.. still the same thing. I ended up going to a 2 piston brembo.
