First time for everything I suppose. Right front wheel hit a root hanging out while I was trail riding. Oh yea.. my Buell is fine.. I was playing on my TRX450 and it has no damage either. My left knee, left elbo and left shoulder got bruised up but the worse my injuries was my ribcage, just below my shoulder blade near my armpit.

Turns out I collapsed a lung and cracked a couple ribs. I have to go back in next Thursday for a follow-up x-ray to see if they will have to put in chest tube. Doc said she could have done it yesterday but it may just sort its self out. I prefer the no knife idea. The only thing that hurt worse was passing a stone. I was told I will be in pain for 2 more weeks?!?!

Moral of this story: Gear.. gear.. gear. $60-125 for a chest protector would have saved me a trip to the E.R. Not to mention I have no medical insurance. Luckily my policy for the toys and truck will cover up to 5g personal injury, which I hope covers most of it.

Anyone here ever collapsed a lung and/or cracked ribs? 3 days at the Hospital and 3 at home. Eating pain pills like tic-tacs and it just dulls the pain a tiny bit.

Hitting the dunes in a couple weeks. Might have to go purchase a chest protector. ;) Or.. ride the X1 instead!

Sorry NW, 3 cracked ribs and a collapsed lung. Doesn't sound like your gonna make it to the dunes. When I ride dirt I'm like a freaking M&M I wear so much gear, Hard Candy shell, soft and mushy insides.. Hope you heal quickly.

I had a trx450 last year went WAY to fast around a turn hit the ditch around 70 mph bike the 3 end for end flips landed on its wheels and kept going down the road till it stalled i lay in the ditch to make sure i was alive. never went to the hospital but think i broke a rib cause it still aint right busted my knee up too but i recovered from that. only damage to the quad was the rear grab bar was smashed.sold it this spring i was afraid of it

Thanks guys. I am glad it wasn't more serious too. I was rockin my riding pants, helmet and gloves. Never trail riding without some more gear. Funny thing is, I have bailed much harder than this, and with much less physical damage. Time to gear up! Maybe sell quad and dump more $$ into my X1 or buy later model. Still love my tuber tho fo sho.

I hope you don't need a chest tube it's not fun.

They heard prob every word in the book when I had to have one.

I did the HRC kit on mine Bradski. Incredible torque. I hear ya when ya said you were afraid of it. You can do throttle wheelies in almost every gear if you are on hard packed dirt or asphalt. You can loop it with ease if you're not careful. Last summer I took a friend out riding. I let him ride my roomies stock 400ex and after an hour or so I let him ride fo-fiddy. One short trail later he jumps off of it and says "dude this thing is scary fast, I stick to the 400." [up] I thought scary fast was a good thing.

Ouch.. does not look fun bolt. I am crossing my fingers that I heal up with out chest tube. I swear I can feel air bubbles in my chest cavity squishing around. Ugh.

I would rather be on a quad in sand than a bike. Dunes are a
lot of work on a bike. Damn near gotta wheelie the whole time. But tight slippery dirt trails are best eaten up by a bike. That being said I have very little experience on dirt bikes sooo.. yea.:p

Yeah my lung was doneski they did that as soon as I got to the hospital I barely had enough breath to get out a full sentence my other injuries probably helped that though.

Had my broken arm reset without pain killers. Worst pain I ever felt. Hope you get better soon and avoid surgery.

Thanks guys... dunno its just the pills but I think i am already feeling a little better.

I never trust 4 wheels off road.

Kick boxing hint: as best as you can, try and take deep breaths, in and out, a couple of times a day. I know it will be painful. Problem is that without full expiration, lung fluids don't move, they get infected, you get pleurisy and you get the picture.

I have seen that stick video... ouch. My face stayed away from the debri luckily.

They gave me a breathing exercise thingy. It looks like something Dolph Lundren would use training for the Bong-O-lypics.

Been taking tiny breaths to avoid the pain, but each day I push it a little further and further. Maybe one day I might become the Bong-master and receive my Green Belt.

Oxyco-wha...? Oh... well that explains a lot. I shouldn't post on meds. Ciao :p

I've done the XC series in the Northwest the last few years on my Husky, needed to take a year off to recover, too many get offs, I feel your pain. [sad] I hate the wet Madrone roots![mad] I have the trailer and RV ready to hit the dunes on the quads this weekend. :D

I dig me the dunes to Oregon. I want to check out Christmas Valley sometime soon. Thinkin the trip to Sand Lake may not happen. I am in pain No matter how many pills I eat. And yes... those roots suck... the literally grab a wheel and hold on to it. Where you at in Oregon Oregon?

Sorry to hear this NwRider .. I've had to toss my KX away from me numerous times at Jones' Creek but never had injuries like yours. Heal fast!
