I have a 2003 XB9S that used to be my daily rider until I got the CR. I took it for a ride a few weeks ago and everything was great. Let it set for a few days and then went to take her out again. When I turned the key the lights didn't come on, but the needles bounced. Checked all the fuses and found one of the big 3 for the Starter was loose. Got it seated and the lights came on. What is absent is the pumping sound and the v twin light on the cluster. The starter cranks, but nothing else? Any suggestions of where I should start looking. I am pretty familiar with the bike, ie; change clutch spring, cable, rear shock, Jardine, K&N,...etc.

By pumping sound do you mean the fuel pump priming the fuel system?

And by V twin light do you mean the check engine light?

maybe she just feels ignored, and is acting out in anger. give her a bath, rub her down with some mother's, and don't do all the talking. spend some time together to just re-connect, ya know?

but seriously; your saying that it will not turn over, but then you wrote that the starter cranks..... so can you rotate the engine by pushing the bike in 5th gear?

can you please better define those terms, or use different ones to more accurately describe what you are seeing/hearing.

i always presume electrical problems off the bat. fuses are easy to check, and either tell you alot or nothing, but it is worth the minimal effort.
how old is the battery? terminals tight? got it on a tender? plugs fouled?

we can guess, and prod, and stab wildly in the dark, but you really should take a look at the trouble shooting section of the service manual if you haven't all ready (the link is at the top of every buellxb page) and then find your bestest gear head buddy

Wild stab / guess = no fuel pump because of fuel pump fuse / relay.... Get a multimeter and check for voltage to the pump when you toggle the ignition on... find the point in the circuit that has power and where you lose it and there is your problem.
If you have voltage at the pump when you toggle the ignition your pump is prob faulty... If you never see positive voltage at the pump then you have a electrical prob upstream.

I'm going to guess ECM issues. Make sure you check all of the fuses, and all of the grounds.

If the check engine (v-twin light) doesn't come on right away I'm pretty sure that means that the ECM isn't turning on.

did you make sure the arrow on the diode in the fuse box is facing the correct direction? or that its good i just had a bad one on my xb9s...
