This shift leather jacket has been great to me for 5 years, but it just started doing this to my clothes. I guess I'll be jacket shopping soon.

A new jacket every 5 yrs is probably not a bat habit to get into anyway. The road is a harsh environment. All that spray & grit gets into the seams and weakens the structural integrity of the jacket. Also, jacket technology (esp textiles & armour) advances to quickly that after 5 yrs, a jacket is pretty much obsolete too.

Leather doesn't become obsolete in this sense. My Grandpas Stetsons are never hung up so to speak (organic felt is used manufacture them). A quality piece of leather should get better with time and shouldn't be rendered useless unless it's been crashed in and is found to be useless. Tanning done poorly can result in bleed out. The crocking is natural in this instance. You need to seal it although it may not work. Invest in quality leathers from now on. Try some beeswax. To fix it before you trash it.

Ha, I wondered if I'd get some flack for my post. I'd invite you to sniff the armpits of some of my old track leathers to see if you'd change your mind.:D

I absolutely agree that good leather is worth investing in, but but you should still be prepared to replace it periodically over the course of a lifetime riding career. It does structurally weaken with use, and advances in insulation, ventilation, armour, fasteners, & tailoring make today's gear much superior to anything you could have bought 20 years ago, dollar-for-dollar.

Its not the leather that's rubbing off. It's a suede some other soft material that lines the neck area.

I'm bumping this to the top. I was really hoping someone would know of a treatment or other solution to this. It just seems so wasteful to toss it.

You must have never ridden in south florida in the summer. 100mph wind is just the equivalent of someone blowing a hair dryer in your face.

take it to a cleaner experienced with leather, I bet it is 5 yrs of stank finally showing itself
