Eee PC this thing is so cool. Its time to get my datalogging on ;), this little book has more hard drive storage than my desktop and is twice as fast. the Touch pad is a little quirky to work with and its a little hyper sensitive but very cool. I got the 1000h 160G From Best Buy for $351 out the door.
Netbook

lol, I got the Acer Aspire one from Best Buy for the same price, same stats, and the thing is tiny...great for going along with you. I was absolutely blown away with how tiny it is.

I already have Ecmspy and megalogviwer loaded on it and waiting to get my cable and LC-1 wideband O2 controler to get here. I can almost put this thing in my pocket its so small and packed full of cool programs and apps. [up] Now I just waiting to see just how long this battery lasts, it says 7 hours but I dont believe it.

Gator there is a guy on ebay that has a touch screen kit for the netbooks that makes the touch pad issue moot.
Here is the Link for his current listing
okay the url for the listing is too long but it is auction # 120380771729, fidohub is his user ID.
It costs $125, but with my clumsy fingers it would be much easier than typing on the downsized keyboard.
he does have a video of the install and setup of the screen, it looks like the way to go.

i got the 7" eee when it was new, blew it up, and bought a second one. Lucky it was new enough, I parted it out and made almost enough money back to pay for the second. I like the eee, it fits under my cargo net thing on the rear of my seat, no backpack required to carry it.

My mom just ordered the Lenovo S10, and I am jealous. It's more of a laptop than a "netbook". 80GIG sata HDD, user replaceable, I mean, thats awesome!

Ophawk, I went into the program and tweeked it to suit me, turned a few things down and a few thing off and Im really starting to like it now. I can zoom and scroll with my fingers. Once you get the hang of it its really pretty cool.

kajer, How you feeling dude? bored yet ? You on Perkies or Loratabs? I looked at the Lenovo it was a little out of my price range and a little more than I needed. Im just blown away with this book. Im listing to raido punk on iTunes and typing this with no lag or dropped connections. The keyboard is 96% of a full size and you cant beat the Intel Atom processor at 1.6 Ghz its faster that my desktop. No problems with youtube vids or Hulu only a short buffering stop now and then on the Wifi.

I will be getting a Netbook, for my next portable, I build all of my desktops.
A buddy of mine from that was on the Boat with me, He's Now an Instructor teaching the Riding courses, he got a Acer Aspire One and loves it, he inputs everybody's data from the course then prints their certs for them on the spot, if they pass, of course. He rides a 98 S1, but it is currently under a couple feet of snow. He's in Northern Iowa, Forrest City to be exact. Anyway I've been looking at them all.
Gator did you get it with Windows, of the Linux version?

Is Acer any good? For some reason I have a feeling that they are kind of low end and overpriced. Keep in mind this is the guy who almost threw his Fiance's phone in the trash because I couldn't get it to go on the internet because I couldn't figure out the buttons. It's a blackberry.

I have been really bored, but I got a nice surprise today. dave_xb12r and all my other friends pitched in and got me a R/C rock crawler I have to build from all the individual pieces... It'll keep me busy for a while.

I am on nor-col or something. Really helps with the gut pain I am still having.

I really wanted the Linux version but was afraid that ecmspy would have a problem with it and would not run right so I stuck with XP. I had both in my hand at the store and decided with xp. I think next time I get a desktop I will build my own too, hell I have replaced everything in this one, Graphics card, sound card, 2Gig Ram, added a seagate 60 gig slave drive. Not much else to do other than the motherboard and the Processor.

Boards, my sister had a full size Acer and had a lot of problems with it but Acer did fix the problem buy replacing it with a new one. I cant think of many Computer companys that have not had problems with their products. I got the Asus Eee because it got really good reviews with the costumer service and over all products but Im sure there maybe a few better brands out their. I just read the reviews throw out the best and worst of each review and go from there.

Kajer those things are cool and should do the job for a while, I know what your going threw. I wrecked my bike a few years ago and broke my collarbone and had to have it pinned with a plate. I was down for 4 months, It sucked.

Oh man! 4 months would kill me... I know I am down to the end of March right now, maybe longer? However long I am out, I hope I can continue on these pain killers. The Doc prescribes a weeks worth of pills, non-refillable, so I have to get a new RX every week.

Traumatic injuries suck.

About the eeePC, if you haven't checked out eeeuser.com, do it. That site helped me a lot when I was installing ubuntu on my 701, and finding usb ports to attach bluetoof. Actually, because of some wire size issues, I ended up replacing the webcam with the bluetooth module. I got a pack of connectors and didn't damage any of the eeePC parts to install the bluetooth. So everything was reversible for warranty reasons.
