Been ride the Buell for a month now or so, and the more I ride it the more like it! I only have 3 issues with it as of right now though... 1.) the grips are not thick enough for my hands... Feels like I'm holding onto two twigs. 2.) the gas tank is way too small. On average, how far would you think I have to go once the light comes on before the bike dies? 3.) the seat is basically just a vinyl covered cinder block. Seriously hurts to ride after 30-45 minutes. On the plus side, it handles fantastic, has plenty of power, get me tons of looks and is fun to take apart to poke around with. I noticed also that it already has what looks like a brand new K&N filter in it and I think someone did the crankcase vent mod. There is a piece of hose zip-tied facing down towards the rear cylinder fan. Any thoughts on who makes a really comfortable seat? Also, can I grab a set of Renthal handlebars that will keep me about the same ride height? I do tons of long distance riding and in the summer, this bike is my daily driver. Thanks for the info guys!

Corbin makes aftermarket seats and they can put inserts in it for comfort. Everyone says they are awesome.

I agree with you on the seat, I took my '07 Lightning for a little 4 hour spin on Saturday, and my old ass feels like two Pit Bulls are hanging on to each cheek.

buell makes a comfort seat.i believe buellparts.net sales them.fuel milage on my 09 at continous 80mph to 120mph light comes on at around 100 miles ive ridden it till 120 miles and had about .50 to .75 of a gallon left depending on wind.i have the scg, smaller tank.

My light came on and I rode until it ran out(not intentionally) and got 32 miles.

I would reroute that hose you dont want all that crap coming out into the fan. IMO I think everyone at our Buell club has rerouted that.

I think the hose he is talking about is the transmission vent hose as I have one on my Bolt like he is saying. I would pull the air box base and double check the reroute before you messed with that hose

Yeah, I'll check that hose out and see where it's coming from. I haven't traced it but don't recall seeing one on a stock bike before. Plus with it facing the fan I figured it had to have been put there by someone other than the factory. I think I'm going to get myself a Corbin seat for the bike. I had a Corbin on another bike and it was pretty damn comfy. Just for my own referance, how big is the gas tank on the 05 XB12s? Any ideas on the Renthal (or similar design) bars that would keep me at the same ride height? I don't want to be hunched over the tank. Thanks for the input guys!

I have that same hose. I did some research and found out that it is in fact a transmission breather hose, and it is routed that way to prevent water from getting in. Also, you can try those fatter foam grips for a wider grip.

Your chances of finding an OEM Buell select seat are about 0%. the corbin seats pretty much look like shit and are wildly expensive. I would check out baldwin saddles http://www.motorbikesaddles.com/ Custom seats any way you want them, good deal. Gel motorcycle grips cost about $8, get on it! haha [up]

1) Buell Traction Grips
2) 130 miles of hard, on the throttle way too much riding
3)These are 50 mile bikes, don't expect too much comfort from the stock seat, sport bike, not touring.

Ok, yeah, that's the trans vent line then. I've ridden it so far about 230 miles in one day, pain and numbness is all this seat gives me. lol. Anyone have pics of the Baldwin seats? I know I can just look at the ones on the site, but I would like to see some close-ups of the craftsmanship. The Gel seating is really appealing.

try longer and longer rides you may get use to the seat,i do a 200 mile ride every sunday.the longest in one day was 536 miles.then again im 43 years old and might not have enough ass left to get sore.

here's a pic of the Trans Vent Line

You might want to check out Kontour Seats. I have used them for both my Streetrod and XB12Scg. There's a built in heat shield plus it really does flow air.

The foam is changed out on your stock seat to match your body weight and riding style. You can have the contours changed to suit your specific needs. The replacement foam dampens vibration as explained on their web site. Vibration dampening is the key.

It's not cheap but neither is a Corbin or a Baldwin.

I put the traction grips on my bolt. big difference, there is more to the grip and it somewhat contours to your palm
