Here are what my valves look like on my new bike. It has 11.2k miles on it so im guessing it needs the adjustment anyways.

You can see the gap and i can feel the lack of power.
Is it expensive to get the valves adjusted? Is it something i can do myself without to much trouble?

That has nothing to do with needing adjustment. The valves are open because the cam is holding it there. Take the little puck off the stator side and turn the nut, the valves will close. If you want to see what it should look like, come back over to the house, mine is still apart and easy to look at. I will show you how to do the valve check if you want. 15 minutes and you'll know what to look for and how to do it.

Usually the Valves on an XB don't need to be adjusted. They can be (lifters)be replaced.Usually on an XB model bike Hydraulic Lifters can be replaced with a newer better lifter or stock will work. Not sure what oil was used before you got it OR if a lot of overreving happened.Look around if you need better Lifters. Make sure to check the Rocker Arms & Valve Springs as well. The Valves on an 1125 or Cr/model bike need adjusting some around 12'000 OR 15'000/ depending on your maintenance,Hard Riding etc..the small shims should be replaced by 16'000miles and then adjusted. The work can be involved if but not too hard for some. Depends on skill level and patience. Good Luck on your work.*Jimi
