Naked Twins

After doing a little research, I want to hear what you guys think. What other naked twins compare to the XB12s, in particular the 12R?

I've never ridden the KTM 990 Duke but it looks incredible. The new Ducati Streetfighter (R edition) must be the best looking naked I've ever seen. If feels and sounds awesome too, however, $18k is a little more than I would want to spend on a bike, plus even the Ducati guys say that the race horse qualities may be a little too much around town.

Each time I compare a bike I end up right back to the Firebolt, it seems to have everything I'd want (besides some of the quirks) and I'm reminded each ride that I will likely never outgrow the bike.

Should I buy another one since they're now on the clearance shelf and save it for later? Are these things bound to be old and outdated, or do we really have solid machines that even the new technologically sound bikes can't truly outperform or outfun?

What do you guys think?

If you want a bike that compares to the duc streetfighter, get a CR.

Fun is a state of mind; some people think doing taxes are fun. If you think the xb is the most fun bike around, nothing will outfun it, ever.

I think our bikes are already outdated. I mean, the fuel in the frame is cool, but you can only wave the "technology" flag so much when your motor is based on something from the 60's. All the other things that make Buells "advanced" are either already copied by other manufacturers (the low exhaust) or not really super great (the front brakes)

Our bikes are unique, and since they are out of business, that will only continue to be. If that sounds like fun, that it will always be the bike for you.

if my stable was stolen, i'd consider a suzuki b-king. it looks much better if you throw an undreslung muffler on it and clean up the tail, IMO. and with the 'busa block, and aftermarket parts galore, it'll be easeir to get parts to get it back on the road so you can have more fun and fix it again, and then get more parts, and then have more fun, and then...

now i'm not a big fan of the full farings, so i'm with ya on the naked bikes, but is there a reson you wanna stick with a twin?
something special about the single-pin crank, or would you mind a twin-pin twin?
or is it just the touque your after?[confused]
the YZF-R1 has a 'crossplane crank' supposed to give it more torque out the hole.[smirk]

pick up a 07 919 probably get for 67 6800 new they listed for 8500 if your in th market for something light and fun.and the handle well..up right seating position..i know of a few used 919 for 4500 to 5000 on the 919 forums..1 guys 52 years old 2200 mile bike is mint..there a cult bike like the buell

I turn heads all the time, My firebolt is dif and girls thing its way sexy. Girls at my work niknamed it the Sexy Beast. The bike is hot! I am going to keep it for the rest of my life. One day I might need to rebuild the engine, bot that will just make it more intimate. My firebolt is part of who i am. When i ride I become one with my bike. I have never owned something i hold so dear. I respect Buell owners. Dont question your buell. Live your buell.

Well don't get me wrong. I love my bolt and while I can think of many rivals, I cannot think of anything within reason that flat out beats the bike in terms of fun, funk, sound, torque, and appeal. If I were going to add one more naked twin to the garage, what would I get? A CR?

a good friend of mine is the head mechanic at the local bmw bike dealer and ive had the chance to ride a k1200r and a k1200s they are nice bikes but spendy. in curently waiting on the chance to ride a new 1000rr[cool]

Both those American made sport bikes look pretty good. I hope they make a go of it. The Fischer looks reasonable at $7995. Couldn't find the price on the Roehr.

I think that as we (at least for me) look externally at other bikes there are only a few true competitors: Ducati, BMW, Triumph, and KTM. In looking at all of the factors, performance, fun, price, looks, ability to find service, the Buell wins the checkered flag...perhaps that's why we all purchased them in the first place.

Hopefully Eric Buell and company can rally back b/c if I have to go to another bike company next, it will truly be a sacrifice in one way or another.
