Just changed my oil. Seemed like I had it topped off but after 50 or so miles of riding since then, was surprised to find only the tip of the stick wet. Added 450 ml more.
I noticed the bike getting hotter than usual as I was getting close to home, that's what made me check. Glad I did. There are no obvious leaks, just some minor seepage from the smaller inspection cover on the primary cover. Where is the oil going? Seems like its burning a lot. Am I missing something?

You probably didn't put enough in the swingarm/tank to begin with. If you burned enough to go from full to nearly empty, the exhaust would almost have to smoke.

Make sure you always check the oil right after riding when the engine is nice and toasty.

Yeah, I filled the filter. I followed the procedure in the manual. First time I've changed it since buying the bike in March. I haven't noticed any smoke either. Hopefully that means I haven't done any damage.

Nah, no damage done. Don't worry about it, just keep an eye on it every once in a while.

was mentioned on here earlier this week but you'll notice owners manual and service manual both say that the XB models "hold APPROXIMATELY 2.5 quarts of oil." there is a slight variance among the XB's and i guess it has to do with manufacturing tolerances and capacities, things of that nature. you can check as timeless said or if you check cold, all you are really looking for is 1/2 inch or more on the end of the stick. either method works well.

Good info, thanks for your help guys. So after using 2.5 quarts as per the manual, and after topping off, I ended up using a full three quarts. I'll definitely be keeping a closer eye on my fluids.
