In mid-july me and the family are going on vacation to San Antonio. We are gonna see the river walk, the caverns, and some other local attractions. We would like to experience Texas (landscape, nature) not just see the typical tourist spots. We are also spending a day in Corpus Christi, any suggestions would be great.

My suggestion would be to go to austin. Nothing to do in san antonio, its all dumb tourist attractions. I've been here for a little over a year...in san antonio.....and never stay in this city to do anything or see anything. Haven't been to corpus yet, but I hear its nice. River walk is interesting, lots of places to eat, theres also an imax theater inside the mall on the river walk. And theres other local rivers that you can float down on tubes, thats pretty fun. I would just google some things to do NEAR san anton, because like I said its all vendors and tourist attractions.

Thanks Luc, the google thing usually pops up with the touristy type Crap, that's why I was hoping I could get some advice from the locals.

Theres also medina lake, its about an hour from san anton. And its in the beautiful hill country. A fun drive there

Thats what i'm talkin about...Medina lake looks awesome! I was also thinking about going to Bandera also. Thanks for the help[up]

You could float one of the rivers around SA, Go to Enchanted Rock, or visit it the town of Gruene.

Enchanted rock is awesome! Just bring a backpack filled with food and water and you can spend most of the day out there hiking

Josh Abbott Band, you ain't met my texas yet. Listen to that song and it will give you all the info you need....lol. Texas in mid-july is a horrible idea BTW.[up]

He said it! I'm jist north of San Antonio, beautiful hill country. Enchanted rock and the fredricksburg area if cool, so is the river walk, alamo, stuff like that. Medina lakes a good place. When u say family..I'm thinking small children, can they do stuff like the ShinerBock Brewery? Look up the Naturan Bridge Caverns, Its a cool place to visit along with the Mexican market area down town. Sea World, Fiesta Texas are amusement parks. You staying IN San Antonio or just around it.

The wife and kids are planning the trip,we were supposed to go to Hawaii, then it turned into texas??? Happy wife....happy life! Texas has to be better that the Washington rain [smirk]

If you are staying close to downtown, drive up and down Broadway Avenue. You will be within Breckenridge Park, Witte Museum, The Museum of Art, Botanical Gardens, Pearl Brewery with its shops and access to the less touristy RiverWalk and Fort Sam Houston as well as other spots. It kinda follows 281 so you are close to the airport and downtown leading to the Alamo and the Alamodome. Plus you have the rest of the missions that follow the San Antonio River south. Also you should travel up 281 North and visit Johnson City and Marble Falls.

Just landed in Dallas fellers, only gonna be here till 7:30. Then were headed to san antonio. I need one of the Texas boys to get there bike on the runway and rip a huge wheelie for me!!!!!

x2 on Josh Abbot Band HAHA !!!!

"...if you haven't climbed up to Enchanted Rock, drank a cold Shiner down in Luchenbach, taken your baby to the River Walk........you ain't met my Texas yet..."

"...if you haven't been to the Houston Rodeo, sang Carry On at a Pat Green Show, if you ain't seen an Abilene sunseeeeeeeeeeeeeet.........you ain't met my Texas yet..."

Tomorrow were going to corpus christi.....so far Texas kicks butt (my son already wants to move here). Thanks for all the ideas on where to go, we have some great days ahead of us.[up]
