Ok so a little background. First off I tryed the search function and got some basic info. I have a 04 XB12R build date of DEC 03. My original belt lasted 21K miles, and broke on an agressive downshift into first (my fault) The replacement for that was an off brand that i have learned that i should stay away from. It lasted 10K and broke on a hard acceleration attempt, again my fault. I just got a new one from the dealership and put it on, It is friggin tight! Tighter than I remember or think it should be... It may be my imagination since reading there should have been an upgrade possibly applied to my bike. What I am asking is, what should the belt upgrade consist of?

Well Thanks Joel. I already have the 14mm tooth pitch, so should I be ok. Is this new 08+ stronger belt just a bit stiffer or maybe thicker? Do I need to look at my wheel bearings more often?

The upgrade has always been a DIY for the Owner - there was no official Buell/H-D upgrade released.

Thanks Squidbuellie, I have 31K on all the bearings now, wheel's Idler, trans... Well everything realy. They all feel tight now. Maybe I will buy a set and keep em on hand.
I rode it to work and back yesterday (80mi) and It felt smooth, If its possible It even shifted smoother.
I will look at my wheel B's everyday for a while, thanks for your help, those that responded.

I have a 04 XB12R as well. There's no need for the belt/pully upgrade as you already have the improved setup. The belt itself was made stronger for later models and fits your bike as-is. Its a 1.125inch width, 14mm tooth (which you know already). Part number has been covered nicely by Stevenc150.

squidbuellie has it exactly right. When you fit the new belt you will swear its the wrong size. You will need to release the rear axle to get enough slack to squeeze the belt on. Do not remove the tensioner; you will never get the belt on that way.

Hope this helps a little :)

Thanks! Yes I did it that way, I have allways changed my own tires so im familure with the procedure. This is just my first improoved belt, and wanted to ensure i didnt need a smaller tensioner or anything crazy like that. This new belt was just way more of a pain than I remembered.

The new maintenance regiment will include more careful check of the wheel berrings I guess.

Just got my ECM SPY cable so now Im gonna get familiar with all that fun...
Thanks again, Mark

Yes that is the belt I have now. as far as upgraded belt. this is what i mean. In 2004 when I bought her, the service requirement on the belt was replacement at 25k mi. Now the service interval is "supposed" to be life time. Now I assume they improved the belt. If not then my mistake for assuming.
As far as wheel berrings, its all back togeather now, and I will be needing a rear tire soon enough, If they dont go bad before then, I will replace them then. Thanks again for the responce.
