I'm a geezer as are my computers and i have minimal computer skills so please be gentle with me. here are my questions and my equipment involved. help and information greatly appreciated. my home office computer is windows XP as is my old battle-wagon shop computer. shop computer does NOT have internet access. i have ecmspy for 2003-2007 models installed on shop computer and it works great. i can navigate it fairly well and do the resets, diagnostics, race maps, etc.....all the normal ecmspy goodies. i do not have ecmspy for 2008-2010 models and want to purchase and install. my questions are as follows:
1-on the ecmspy site how much $ is required to purchase?
2-after online site purchase made how is the program/software received by me?
3-if they send me a file or email or whatever how do i transfer it from office computer and load onto shop computer? burn to CD and install that way as i did with prior ecmspy?
4-once i do this to shop computer does it work the same way as spy i already have installed?
5-does it also include the 2008 and up standard race maps for installation?
6- does it include an easily navigated method for me to slightly lower factory warm idle speed?
7-after purchase will the new ecmspy do any and all 2008 and up models or just one specific bike? in other words will it work for any and all model XB's?
any other help or suggestions with this greatly appreciated. thanks very much. regards, john

I suggest an alternative that is less work for the uninitiated.

I use ecmdroid on a cheap android tablet from Walmart. Uploads and downloads maps off the ECM using the Buelltooth or similar Bluetooth dongles connected to the bike's diagnostic port. Pretty easy for the computer un-savvy. Also doesn't require a computer to be physically connected to the bike.

Ecmdroid is free on the android market, Buelltooth was $50, and the tablet was $50. I use the tablet for other things as well.

I'll admit, ECMDroid is very easy to use, and very convenient.

I have no experience with the paid version of ecmspy, I use Tunerpro when using the computer.

If you want to do the ECMDroid thing, let me know and I'll hook you up with a Bluetooth dongle.

thanks guys.....thanks cole. i have no idea what a dongle is and don't own a tablet nor do i know how to do the bluetooth thing. as mentioned i want the program to use on my shop computer. that's all i'm capable of doing. any other instructions or help really appreciated please. i did give tunerprort a try but way over my head.

If you use the shop computer I think you will have to have a cable long enough to reach from the computer to the bike?

The dongle is a small Bluetooth device you plug into the diagnostic port under the seat and it communicates via Bluetooth with the android tablet/computer. With the Bluetooth dongle you can access the ECM without physically connecting the computer. There is a way to use the dongle with your computer if you have Bluetooth on the computer as far as I have read.

i have the cable that feeds from computer to the bike ecm access plug. have used it many times in shop for ecmspy on pre-2008 bikes. questions 2,3,4,5,6,7 remain from my original post. any help appreciated.

I'll answer what I can. If I don't know, I keep my trap shut:)

1) ich says $50. Und ich glaube ihm.
2)I'm sure once you pay ECMSpy they let you download the program to your computer (via the internet).
3) You then burn it on a CD rom or SD card and put it in whatever computer you have that doesn't have internet.
4) I don't know, but I would guess absolutely yes.
5-6, Dunno
7) Just like the '03-'07 version, I would think it's just a tool to tune any bike with. I shouldn't lock to a specific VIN# like the Hypertech stuff.

Your shop computer has no internet access. Why? No WiFi? no Ethernet cable? No Internet card? All are cheap and easy solutions to get internet on it.
A $50 Tablet will have WiFi (to connect wirelessly to an existing internet signal).
It will have Bluetooth (to connect to the bike wirelessly), Via a bluetooth "Dongle" (Talk to AZMidget or Buelltooth.com).
It will also have a SD card slot (like a CD drive) that you can physically load/save programs on a little card.
Since it's tiny, that means you can now put it in your back pocket and record what the bike is doing while you ride it (Datalogging).
For $50, it's worth it. I even paid an extra $12 that covers mine if I drop it, spill on it, or break it for 3 years!

Once you have the tablet on wifi, you can text, look up youtube vids, talk to us dirty plebeians on BuellXB.com, and even put on Spotify or Pandora then Bluetooth wirelessly to some speakers for tunes in the garage!

Welcome to 2001 John:black_eyed:

1. From my own research the "donation" requirement is about $70USD
2. Should be a download file accessible in your downloads section of your account.
3. The file can only be downloaded to ONE computer unless you pay for more licenses
4. Cannot vouch because I have not used ECMSPY for the older models 03-07
5. Again cannot say for certain, but I do not believe the race map is included
6. Yes you should be able to adjust the idle through the program, cannot say how.
7. You select your EEPROM and the program is for that one bike on one computer, if my understanding is correct. There may be a work around by copying your current EEPROM and rewriting any map to that into that file. Im sure that is kind of confusing, but I saw it in one of the sticky threads on the forum.

Your best bet may be the Android setup a few guys recommended or see if you can find a free download. I found one again on a thread here, sorry I don't recall where. I have not had the chance to play with it yet, however I am able to open the program and set to professional mode; a start in the right direction I suppose.

EDIT: Here is the thread where I found the program for free about a month ago http://www.buellxb.com/forum/showthread.php?6430-ECM-Spy-Download/page27
