So I bought my bike at 6k miles a few months ago, now have almost 11k. It's an 05 xb12r. I really need a new front rotor because of the bouncing that the current one gives me (not comfortable for my mountain riding). Does anyone have any idea where I can get one really cheap? The cheapest I've found is on EBR website for $120 and that's a nice racing one. Also, I kinda wanna after market nice sounding muffler... if anyone knows or has one they wanna get rid of for cheap...

Only 11k on the rotor? Mines got 25k and mines still good to go. If it is pulsating try taking it off and use a scotch brite pad with simple green and clean it before you spend money on one.

Although glazed spots do happen, it's not very likely. It could have bent if the bike fell over.

You're looking at around $160 for a new rotor and new hardware.

The bike has never been over and the only aggressive riding that I have done on it was some mountain riding. I bought the bike a few months ago with 6k miles so I doubt that there has been any other aggressive riding. I'll take it off when I get a new tire and scotch brite it... hopefully that is the problem...

I'm going to make a new post on this soon.

But. Just when I thought (think) I need a new front rotor.... I 2nd guess myself. I really think my hardware is just binding..

It only happens randomly.. But every once in a while I get a HORRIBLE front end shake during braking.

Again, it's not every time, just about 2 out of 5..

Here's where I'm at... I'll replace my pads 1st. If there are fine and my "shaking" is still there, I'll replace the rotor w/ original hardware. Then if it continues, I'll replace springs, bolts and the little spacer things...

PS. If you don't know what a floating rotor is just give your front rotor a little kick tomorrow. It will all make sense then.... More to come...

Look forward to it TooFst. I think my problem is every time I break, but I def. need new pads. I maybe changing the hardware because I have heard that it makes a big difference. Lemme know how it goes for you.

Green, I had the same problem on my STT, and come to find out, it was a mix of several things. I took the rotor off, cleaned the hardware with wheel cleaner and let them soak for about a half hour. I changed the pads, and scotchbrite'd the rotor, and smooth as glass after that.

An afterthought, make sure when you are cleaning everything to clean the edges of the rotor where the hardware rides. Mine were filthy, and I keep my bike fairly clean

Try changing the pads for decent sintered aftermarket instead of the stock pads.
Stock pads leave a deposit on the disc that eventually builds up to the point of feeling like it is a warped disc or worn hardware (this can happen even on small mileage bikes).
As recommeneded above, clean the disc with scotchbrite pad and brake cleaner, then fit decent pads (Braking, EBC, Lyndall etc). You will feel the difference :)

I had my front rotor replaced on my '10 Ss with less than 5K on it...I talked with a few people and found out that most of the time rotors aren't warped they just have junk on them from the "not so great" stock pads as mentioned above. In my my case, I was feeling it grab as I was moving the bike in and out of my garage. Since the bike was still under warranty I took it to the dealer to have it checked out. They said it was warped and replaced it under warranty. I had after market EBC brake pads from ASB put on in lieu of stock pads (ASB sent them direct to the dealer!) and I haven't had a problem since.

I have no idea if the rotor was really warped because they wouldn't give it back to me (a warranty thing)...I wanted to make a clock out of it for my garage...Maybe I'll do that if someone wants to get rid of a warped one?

Lol, the idea for a clock is great. Thanks for all the input guys/gals. Next week after Christmas I will be ordering tires (tire place is closed week of christmas). I also ordered some Vesrah break pads and plan on scrubbing my rotor while everything is off. I will let you all know what happens. Hopefully this will help someone else that has had the same prob.
