Took the bike out for the first extended ride of the season. 300+ mi most of which in light rain. Have had mild key switch problems for the past few rides; no gauges, No gauge sweep nothing but if you jiggle the key switch everything is fine. Stopped to eat today and blew the ignition fuse once I turned the KEY on and after I jiggled the ignition switch. Bike was not running. Switched out the spare fuse, bike makes a click noise upon replacing fuse, and blows again once key is turned on. All other fuses are fine, relays are fine, have no tools to pull the seat off yet but I just checked the battery connections yesterday and they are good. Suspecting the keyswitch finally gave out on me but hopefully not because you cant just buy those at an auto part store. Right now my bike is in a sams club parking lot while I am walking to the closest auto store to get fuses and tools. How should I go about testing for the culprit. Please keep in mind that I am in a parking lot not a garage and I have very limited resources. Thank you in advance.

I havent had to get at mine. But you lock cylinder is connected to an ignition switch. Sounds like some connections in the switch shorted to ground. A wiggle tug on these wire may undo the short. But you may have to split some wires and cross manually if youre in that hard of a bind

Not sure if this helps, but i believe if you connect those wires atthe switch all should power up and go.

Thanks for the input man. Ended being a short in my blinkers? One of my signal leads came loose amd was comtacting the ground. Who knew lol. I taped it all off for a temp fix. I still feel like I should replace the ignition switch though.

i would. if you can wiggle it and have problems, as you previously stated, it is inevitable it will cause you a problem. and that problem never surfaces in your garage or driveway. it's always in a restaurant parking lot 200 miles from home.
