I have major problems.

Stats:
2007 XB12R
D&D Pipe
Race ECM
No other mods(I know, what the hell am I thinking?)
7000 Miles
Bought the bike with 3800 Miles on it. Did oil change at 5000 Miles.

Problem:
Started looking over the bike tonight to see what mods I wanted to do over the winter. Noticed an oil drip on the ground. I thought there may be a loose bolt, simple fix. I looked under the bike and there is a small amount of oil along the bottom of the case. I tore the whole back end apart and noticed there is oil coming out of the valve cover of the rear cylinder but looks like a minor gasket leak. I pulled the oil cap to check the level and noticed a milky white residue on the threads so i shined a flashlight down into the fill and noticed the same residue very present in the swing arm. I've been riding the bike everyday until 2 days ago and the bike is garaged.

Tossing my arms up and screaming WTF do I do now?

The bike is in the back of the truck and will be on the way to the dealer first thing in the morning.

[confused][down][mad]

Also I know a guy with an 1125R with 1000 miles, D&D Pipe, Race ECM, Hydro-dipped plastics to match the metallic blue frame and signed by Eric Buell.

Get this, he wants $9500 for it which is all he owes. Let me know if you're interested. He may also post it here.

Bike is at the shop. The milky white substance in the swingarm they say is very common for the winter. They said it's cause by it not being a completely closed system and going through many hot and cold cycles. According to them it doesn't lower the integrity, there is just enough in there to change the color. They do suggest more frequent oil changes over the winter. They believe the rocker box cover gasket is the problem and should be covered under warranty.

I will have to keep an eye out for that since I live in WI. Thanks for the headsup! Winter has just begun and I already have the itch to get out and ride so ive been taking my bike for a few spins in the underground parking lot of my apartment.

I just got my bike back from the dealer today. The warranty worked flawless and I am very proud to be a Buell owner. Only problem is i signed a paper for them to WASH it but now that I have my bike back I noticed that they only squirted it with water and dried it. My rims look like crap so I think I'll spend the next 4 hours washing.:)

i had a rocker box gasket leak a few weeks ago that was fixed under warranty and have noticed some residue on my dipstick like you described. buell cru, thanks for answering a question i had about my bike.

The milky oil look is caused from condensation building up in the system. The condensation is caused from not getting the motor and oil hot enough, for long enough to evaporate the water. Short trips for any type of engine are horriable.

agreed, let the bike warm up for a few minutes when it is below 50degrees or so. If your taking it for a spin, try to hit the highway for a bit. That should get it out enough to evaporate the water.

My bike warms up for 5 minutes every morning and then runs on the highway at about 65 mph sometimes a little higher for about 20 minutes then is parked for approximately 6-8 hours and then same scenario on the way home.

Yeah, it doesnt really matter a ton if you run it long or hot enough. Winter is just plain hard on combustable engines period. Some harder than others depending on precip..etc. Condensation is a problem for all bikes, cars, trucks this time, most just dont look to see the white junk, its too cold to do that crap. It is indeed water though. If you do see it, warm it up and drain it. Thats all you can do...when the weather heats up it'll burn away.

oil additives are doing there job keeping the condensation as a paste and not water ..if oil dont hit 185 deg plus it happend it will happen at any out side temp
