Hi I need little help
I run a redneck drag with a M2 1997 engine, 1250 big bore kit from NRHS, N6 cams,Thunderstorm heads,42mm Mukuni,Twin tec ignition, hyper charger. Fresh top end and btm rebuild with 3000 klm on it.
I was having problems with the engine pinging on the 91 Oct we get in Thailand and reset the ignition to the street/race setting and went for a ride. Ran out of fuel and had to put 95 gasahol as no 91 avaliable. which made the engine ping even worse, I got about 15 klm and blew the rear head gasket.
First I need to know the size of the 12 star head bolts on the 1997 M2 buell ? so I can order a socket as I am away at work at the moment.
Also the pinging, I read some where a while back, that if I reset my static timing then check with a timing light. then slightly retard it from there and lift the neddle and seat one mark on the mukuni this would solve the pinging problem ?
Has anyone tried this ?

Also a few times the float has jammed on the mukuni but un sticks it self while riding, The carb is also new with maybe 5000 klm on it. Is this a sign of shit building up or maybe needs a rebuild kit ?
Any help welcome.
Cheers

This may fix the problem, but you really need to tune it on a dyno. Otherwise its test and error, risking engine damage.

I am confused why a higher octane would cause more pinging. Unless the 91 wasn't gasahol...

Okay that makes sense. Definately check your timing and spark plugs first. Then you'll have to play around with the carb to get the right setting. Have you disassembled the float bowl yet to inspect the float?

No I havent pulled the carb down yet, but have just pulled the rear head off and was as far as I could go while I wait for the new gaskets.
will be pulling the carb apart as soon as I get home. Thinking about ordering a rebuild kit just in case.

If your not using a in line filter it could be something in the needle and seat but the needle has a rubber tip that will fail with some time.

Thanks for the replys, I might order a rebuild kit for the carb just incase.
The engine also started to suffer from bad vibrations which wasnt there before (timing I guess)
Do you think vibrations would cause early wear on the carb.

hey...cant help with your prob. but maybe u can help with mine...my s3 thunderbolt wont shift outta first...jus to neutral and wont go into second or anything...im pulling it apart..any idea what i should look for?...
