upon putting case halves together the manual states to remove the neutral switch and place the gear detent assembly aid B-45520 tool in it's place to ease assembly. ok, since I don't have that tool, what have you guys been using as a substitute?

30 plus views and no one, hmmmm...got it figured out, the case halves are now joined, bolts installed and torqued, cam gears in. Done for the night, pick up tomorrow morning and hopefully she'll be back together by the afternoon.

she's almost back together, still have a few parts to install, get some oil and filter before cranking her up after about two months of being in pieces

Yeah, but it is the riding season. So you can Ride, and make sure to be safe out there. Jimi [up]

use a cheap thin walled 5/8" spark plug tool from local sport bike shop to remove the switch, and a small screwdriver handle inserted just enough to hold the arm out of the way to marry the case halves

You might be able to make the detent gear assembly aid tool (B-45520) from a bolt size 9/16"-18 x 2". That is the fine thread for that hole.
