Okay ive read elsewhere that it takes a 5/8 socket that you thin the sides with (i used a bench grinder).
It still will NOT fit.

Did I hear the wrong size about the socket needed?

I was able to use a set of needle nose pliers and fit them in the spaces between the case and the sensor and turn it and it loosened right up. Did the same thing to tighten back up and haven't had any issues with it in 5000 miles.

I actually finally wore down the socket enough and got it out!

Here is the thing now...
I took it out and cleaned it, just in case.
I ground the lead wire and the neutral light comes on.
I put it to the small gold piece at the end of the switch( re-installed) and nothing happens. I then ground it to the socket area of the re-installed switch, and the neutral light comes on.

Does this mean its a defective switch?

The rounded part at the end pushed in when it's in neutral. So if you push that in with it hooked up and the neutral light comes on it should be good. If not that you need a new one.
If you need a new one I usually order my parts from here for stock replacement. The part number for an 06 XB9SX is 33900-99 they should be the same for all years and models of XB's.
