Hello,

My name is John and I just purchased my first Buell, a 2009 xb12xt, red, bone stock, with 20k miles. This is my 15+ bike, I lost count lol. I've always wanted a Buell since 1997 when I graduated high school.

I checked the oil level (black oil) and other things and took off. I rode about 30 miles and noticed that downshifting from 4th on down was horrible. I had to double tap and force it down. I took her home and changed the fluids. Fluids were AWFUL! I went back out for about another 150 miles and the downshifting is still bad. Everything else is perfect! I will be searching the forum and performing some maintenance for sure to cure the downshifting issue. I love this bike!

Thanks for having me and I look forward to a lot of miles ahead on this baby.

First off, congrats on your new bike!! I'm sure you will love it once it's sorted.

First things I would check are the clutch adjustment and then do a primary adjustment. If the primary is loose or out of spec it can cause false neutrals and hard up and down shifts.

Good luck with the bike. It's a great machine and a ton of fun when set up properly.

Welcome from a fellow NC bueller, new fluids and an adjustment will do a lot for you. Did the bike come with the manual?

Thanks for the welcome, advice and invite. I will try to make the April event for sure.

I changed the fluids with high grade synthetic 20w50 (no oil thread please lol) and adjusted the primary chain and clutch cable/ramp according to the manual. I downloaded the service manual; thank you forum! I have the original owners manual too. The problem seemed to be better but I noticed it came back once at operating temp. I am thinking of changing the clutch pack with the recommended energy one kit (lunaticfringe), needle bearing and maybe the detent springs including the return spring. This way I know everything in there is good to go.

Did you grab it down at the dealer in Columbia sc?

Was heading down there and they told me it sold...
Congrats

Welcome to the forum and your new addiction! [up] I hope to meet you at the Dragon event in April.

We're an Energy One Dealer. Let us know if we can help. CLICK HERE to view the clutch pack on our site. Note that shipping is free so the price you see is the total you will spend. While you're there, check out our other offerings for your bike.

Thanks! Oh...and "pics of the new bike or it didn't happen!" LOL I had to!
