Hey guys. I am proud to say that my wish came true. I have been perving over the brand since I first saw them. Things finally fell into place and I bought one. Its an 06 XB9SX Lightning. And its blue.

I bought it through local classified web page and I was pleased to see that the owner allready made some upgrades that I was going to do anyway. Like the exhaust and such. There is however a few things I still need to do to the bike. I got a good price as I will do it all myself. ( my garage is more like a workshop complete with lathe and milling machine ) it had a broken drive belt, which I got from HD here and fitted it quite easily.

Now you need to understand, in South Africa there is not a lot of spares floating around. Its a bit of a niche market. HD dealerships seem to be on the up and up these days, after they all just about closed, their doors. I was lucky to find a local custom V bike shop that seem to have plenty of spares. For now I still need new airbox cover and flyscreen, passenger pegs and hand gaurds. If I cant get the plastics I would have to resort to a solid color scheme in carbon fibre or fibre glass and paint.

Any whoo. Awesome site. I love forums. Pardon the long winded story, but Im super stoked.

Cheers from sunny SA.

You see what I mean about forums. Awesome guys. I cant wait to post my pics, but its not so easy from my Ipad. I will do it from my office pretty soon.

Maybe you can clarify something for me 50dro. The HD dealer searched for my partnumbers, and both showed up as " Ubsolete " can I still get new plastics for my bike as its an 06 model. Thats if I cant find any locally.

Thanks in advance.

I'm certainly not the authority on OEM Buell parts but I know plastics are getting scarce. If the dealer says they're obsolete, they probably are.

I gotta ask, why do you need new ones? Are yours cracked or scuffed? If they are not broken, most scratches can be buffed out with Novus Plastic Polish. If you "need" to replace them because yours are broken or you just don't like the color etc you may just make a thread on here asking for what you want. You may be surprised what people have sitting around! :) The guys and gals here usually will give you a good deal as well. Keep in mind that they are interchangeable between all years except that the newer ones (07+ I think?) have a vent in the black piece near the fuel cap.

Of course your other option would be to repair and/or paint yours but I personally hate to see that happen to original (especially translucent) plastics since they are becoming so hard to find in their original state.

Best of luck! Looking forward to seeing your pics!

I have passenger pegs for sale, and the brackets that go with it, err the pieces that attach to the main frame... I would do a pretty cheap price, and cost of shipping... PM ME if your interested.. not trying to make a buck, just not interested in this part and you are, helping out a fellow bueller :)

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. The belt I fitted seems fine. I took it on 50 mile run today just to feel things out. Bare in mind that I have riding for many years, but mostly MX, Enduro and Supermoto. And lately I have been scooting around on my kTM SM 640 Prestige. Street motarding is alot of fun. Needless to say. This is way out of my depth, but I am happy to say that my Buell fits me like my ass on a toilet seat. I love the gearbox. I am so happy.

To get backmto parts. The one dealership said they had a new airbox cover in blue for me, but I have to wait till Monday for the parts guy to get back. Mine has pretty long cracks in it, and the front 2 bolt holes are completely broken off. Apparently they have pegs as well. So now I wait.

Worst case I would have fibre glassed the whole and body fill and sand to smooth. I though a nice metal flake Indigo blue would look nice with a single white off centre stripe over both parts. But for now. I wait. I prefer original parts with some good engineered trick bits like levers, pegs and covers.

All in good time yes ?

Cheers
