Hey guys, I got a very good deal on a blast. Its an 05 with 2K miles on it. I like the look of these bikes and the reliability Im reading about them. The guy says it hasnt been ran in a while b/c its been sitting. Im going to pick it up tomorrow, granted that everything works out. What is the maintenance on these bikes like. Im a pretty good auto mechanic, so figuring stuff out wont be an issue. But, Im buying a bike for daily commuting so I can park the car, except for long trips. Am I looking at expensive maintenance costs with this bike as a daily, and with them being discontinued, will finding someone to work on it for the big ticket items be an issue? Thanks guys.

Well then if your not going to toss it around the curves - then this is your prescription: Check and add oil as needed - every third day - minimum, change tires out to the Pirrelli Diablo scooter front at 110/70-16 and use the Pirrelli ss66 rear scooter 140/70-16 - they fit and will together last around 10,000 miles a set. Change top and bottom oil every 5000 and your golden.

These bikes are very easy to work on. I took my firebolt all apart over winter and rebuilt it just by using the owners manual.

I know what commuting does to a Blast - if thats all you do with it, then it will last a very long time.

Agreed. I log a little under 2000 miles a month on my Blast commuting to work and school. I get between 50-60mpg and has no issues with highway speeds. Like EZ said, always keep an eye on oil level, they do use more oil than a tipical bike.. other than that they're great.

Oh and welcome to the forum[up]

Sounds good, I cant wait. People just say that the buells are needy and require a lot maintenance. I can maintain it but if its down every other week then it defeats my purpose. But, from what you guys say sounds promising. He is the original owner and the bike has been sitting for a while. It needs a battery. I was considering a Honda Rebel because it has a reputation for being bullet proof. Im in south florida and I will be riding this instead of my car year round so reliability is big for me. Also can I still take it to the Harley Shop for things I cant figure out?

Don't be suprised if the intake boot goes out after a bit from dry rot. It's not really a big issue, but it's been sitting for awhile. If you will have to fix anything that will be it, and if I remember correctly it's $18 to replace. I put 7k on my wife's to keep it functioning and have only had to replace the rear tire and an intake boot. Good luck, I hope your not very big though, they are torture on the bigger guys.

Thanks. Im 5'9.1235645856422654" :)
Thats not to big right? The guy just paid off the lien on the bike yesterday, the day he put it up for sale so Im waiting on the title now.....you think he wouldve done that. Im not buying it until he has title in hand. Anyone here in south florida with a bike for sale? I want to get out of car really bad!!!

Blast's are easy to maintain and are reliable. The earlier "Tubers" were the problem bikes. HD even did service recalls on them after they bought Erik's company.
