Hello all,

Just got my bike delivered today.
It's a 08 12scg in orange.

Got a question for you.
The bike was shipped without gas and oil, so i need to fill'er up.
Gas is easy, but what oil do i get and how much?
She has 1600 miles on the clock.
Anything else I should check?

Thanks
Orlando

Mobil 1 V-twin 20w 50 motorcycle oil you'll need 4 qts 2.5 for the crankcase and 1 for the primary.

Welcome to the Forum Lando!! Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Screamin' Eagle, etc. It's highly recommended, whatever you go with, get fully synthetic motorcycle oil. 20W50 works fine for both holes. Congrats on your bike! Want to post up some pics?

Thanks for the help so far guys.
It seems that the concensus is Royal purple or Amsoil, so that is what I will go for.

So far this is the only photo I have uploaded.

Also, my bike didn't come with any owners manual, service manual or tool kit...
Where is a good place for me to get these so i can start learning/tunning my bike?

Thanks all, this site awsome.

Welcome Lando! I bought my 09' a week ago and I love it. The guys on this site are very helpful. Enjoy the new ride!

Regarding the manual, I'd call around to a few HD/Buell dealerships and see if anyone has any extra. Or, check eBay...

Had my maiden voyage today!

WOW!!!!! This biks rocks. Exceeds all my expectations. I'm soo glad i bought a Buell, it's been 6 years waiting, since they came out in 03.
Couldn't be happier.

BTW, changed all my fluids to Amsiol, so thanks all for the sugestions.

Buells are the best!

Owner's Manuals are available for Free viewing via Buell.com in the "Owners" section.

Service Manuals are available for Free Download through the "Buell Service Manuals" link at the top of this page. They're both for Firebolts though, but the major things are similar for all XB's.

Should you want one specifically for the Lightning, I have an '04 XB12S Service Manual in .PDF I can email you. If you want it, post up your email and I'll get it to you.

Congrats on the bike ride. It's addictive isn't it? :D

Yea there's nothing sexier than a lightning rolling down the freeway at night. It just looks like its ready to open up a can! :D

AGREED, Its very good and easy to find also. Wal-Mart usually carries it for a good price.

do i have to change the primary at the same time as the regular oil change? new 09 bike and i just changed to mobile 1 vtwin and changed the filter. how do you do the primary and when? sorry another noob!

I change both at the same time just to be on the safe side.

To change the primary, stand the bike vertical (not on the kickstand and drain primary fluid via the drain plug just behind your kickstand as pictured below:

Then fill up with your choice of fluid (I use Royal Purple Max Cycle 20W50) through the clutch cover pictured on the left. Fill until it reaches the level as pictured on the right (approx. 1 qt.).

Note: the Clutch Cover has a gasket behind it that is recommended being replaced when you do this. I do because I bought a bunch last trip to the dealer. But you can get away with re-using the same one if you want.

Stevenc150, i noticed the links after my post so i.m set with the downloaded manual, thanks for the heads up though.

Does the primary oil come in contact with the regular oil? reason Im asking is I changed my main oil at 500miles since it was burning it pretty fast and it was a little low. Am I ok to wait until 1000 to change primary or should they be done at the same time to ensure the same oil is being used?
