Hey all, the names Dan and i have just recently imported an xb12 from the usa into New Zealand. Its My first Buell, and im wondering why the heck i took so long to buy one!! I have been reading this forum for awhile and have taken alot of handy hints and info from here. So i finally decided to join up and become a part if it!! Look forward to being involved in a better way of riding life

Awesome stuff! I bought my XB12S not even a month ago and can't wait to ride it for the first time at the end of next month.

I see you have imported the bike but have you received it yet or still on its way? Please post up some pictures if you have it or when you get it.

I have recieved it, first thing i did was my own DIY tailchop and rear subframe paint, led indicators and mirrors

And if anybody can tell me what sort of exhaust it has that would be great!!

G'day Kiwibuell and welcome to a great site with fantastic members . looks like a pretty sweet ride you have there and I hope you really enjoy riding it . Looks like you have the Buell factory race muffler and they are highly sought after by owners . Take care and I reside over the ditch :D . and you may also have the race ecm to match .

First off that is a good looking bike. Congrats on the purchase.

Okey is correct. That is Buell Factory Race Exhaust, I have the same one on my bike. It is probably worth a look to see if the Previous Owner had a race ECM and also put on a K&N Air filter too. Sometimes PO's just dont know the bike had those when he/she bought it. If they weren't aware and didn't post on their ad that is definitely a major upgrade for you.

as do I lunaticfringe.

kiwi, do you know other Buellers over there?

I know at least 3 if you need some locals

Well i wasnt aware it was a race exhaust! It seems to have a k & n filter but not sure how to check for the ecm.
I am in Rotorua, which is 3 hours south of Auckland so not far away.
Looking forward to meeting any "Buellers" in new zealand!

I have a friend in Christchurch, he was over here to the US in april, we took out to stripper clubs, drinking, and then shooting guns up in the hills (not while drinking) so he had a great time, He is into Motorsports and we have been talking about sending a container of vintage cars, bikes and perhaps 2 buells over there. the prices are MUCH higher and what people are charging on TrademeNZ seems like it would be a great idea.

im assuming you imported from the US? what kind of shipper did you use? commercial or private party sale? any special conditions ? I know theres special limits to prevent bugs and plants getting in, any tips on helping me send some cool stuff over there would be appreciated,

I am researching this topic now, thanks

Im glad he enjoyed strip clubs, shooting guns and drinking because he wouldnt be a kiwi otherwise!!
As far as the importing details of my bike, it was fairly straight foward as i had a friend organise it for me. I know to avoid paying tax we had to say it was a gift, and i needed a bill of sale to prove we only paid $1800 for it (anything over $2000 is big tax) obvioulsy i paid more though. My friend filled a container with a few buells, a drag car and allsorts of other stuff so he organised all my paperwork. If i think of anything you need to know, il let you know annoyance!!

hi Dan,

im the founder of Kiwi Buell Riders in NZ, im based in Wellington.

you can find us on Facebook.

great to see another Buell rider in NZ. we have about 60 members from all over NZ at the moment with the exception of Wolfo and a few others from Australia and 1 or 2 from Europe.

you just pop the seat open and unbolt the ecm.. "race only" should be written on the back of it if its a race ecm..

it would look a lot cleaner with the passenger pegs off of it... and get some frame pucks.. they work wonders

take some 1500gt sandpaper to those headers... top it off with 2000gt.. it will look like a gold mirror when its done.. takes about 30 min a bucket of water... wet sand it

welcome to the forum...that is the Pro-Series race exhaust, beware it's a much sought after item:D be a very happy man to have it:p
not all race ecm's are stamped with the "For Race Use Only", you may have up to two bar code stickers on the ecm, one will be the part number which can be researched to find out if it is a race ecm
