I am picking up an 07 XB9R this weekend with only 3500 miles on it and bone stock. Just looking at changing the exhaust possibly. I am not looking for more HP just a nice exhaust note. I have seen Drummer and Jardine as two of the more popular ways to go. Any thoughts? I am ready to go nuts waiting for my bike! Thanks.

Have you considered a Hawk Muffler? Randy Hawkins is the man and overall a great person. His products are spot on and IMHO would fit your needs to a tee. Just my two cents.

Learn to tune the ecm...or don't change the exhaust. The hp gain from tuning....isnt the important part. Getting the bike to where your not burning holes though the pistons because your running it so lean is. Can't emphasize the importance of this enough.

c818919- Absolutely! This is my first fuel injection bike so I am behind the times right now. I have owned several rice rockets and Harleys so I know the importance of proper tuning. I have never just thrown a pipe on. What I meant by the HP comment was I am not looking for a full system with cutting edge programs. Just something simple like a slip on, air cleaner, and ecm map. I have never "outgrown" a bikes full potential so I see no reason to increase it. I never heard of Hawk or Dean but will check on them asap. Thanks guys!

Money nowadays is tight so I try to keep my budget down. I won't be buying anything this year but maybe just before spring time. Then well see what the funds look like. Anybody here close to Dutchess County NY?

hawk!!! i'm on my 3rd one and completely satisfied. super quick turn around, about $200 plus your freight to randy, wonderful workmanship. very nice exhaust note, great power, and you can reinstall your stock lower cowling on stock brackets. his info is on this site and/or google hawk performance and his info will appear. i am not affiliated in any way shape or form with hawk performance. LOL LOL

I could be wrong but I think drummer and hawk are basically the same construction/modification. Big price difference though. Maybe someone else can verify this. I'm also looking at exhaust mods myself, and as simple as their mufflers look, and the fact that I have a welder, makes me want to just do something myself for free or next to no $$$.

snrusnak- I hear you on modding it yourself. I have a welder as well. I just got the bike Saturday and love it! It sounds pretty good stock. I like the idea of retaining the stock looking muffler as the cops are a pain in the arse here. What ECm mods must be done with the Hawk Mod? Can I just change the map on the stock ecm? Thanks.

Most people claim that you need the exact map to fit your intake/muffler, however right now I'm basically all stock and running the race map and it's great. I'd assume it'll still be great after intake and exhaust mods. I think there's a little more overlap with mapping as far as intake/exhaust go. Sure it might not be perfect but it should run just fine. If it's not running great then you can adjust the mapping with ecmspy.

Maybe I will try it out over the winter. I plan on doing the Hawk mod as well. Thanks snrusnak. Anyone know where to get a pre-fab number plate decal for the tail? The previous owner stripped all the decals off the bike and I thought it would look great with a black number plate on the tail.
