New EBR rotor on order, which pads?

So I am ordering a new ebr front rotor plus mounting hardware to alleviate front brake pulsing. I have two questions:

1: Which pads should I run? I am looking at EBC, heard lyndalls can get messy. Hoping to keep it sub $100.

2: Install. I don't have a front stand. Moreover, I'm not sure I trust myself to do the work on something integral to safely bringing myself to a stop. I know most of you will say eff HD, but should I bring it to the dealership or an outside mechanic for the install? Any recommendations in the Portland, OR area? I should also say that I do like my dealership, they've been good to me throughout my buell experience. I've been in a lot for warranty work, tire warranty (5X), etc. They even replaced a belt for free - the first time :)

Anyway, those are my quandaries. What say ye buell aficionados? Thanks in advance!

Lyndall gold for sure. Best pads I've used. Who cares about a little brake dust?

Install is pretty darn easy man. If you can find a way to support the bike, it is basically an unbolt, rebolt process.

i prefer and stock EBC HH pads and sell alot to board members. i replaced the bad factory rotor on my 2004 firebolt with an EBR piece and went with EBC pads. they work well.

EBC HH Sintered.

Composite pads will have brake fade and leave deposits on your rotor.

double that! you'll love the results, was one of the best changes i made to my bike before I killed it ;P need to reorder it again. My insurance actually reimbursed me for it ;)

Hi! Terry, lunatic and mowgoli are all good advisers on this! I've tried numerous pads myself, and find the EBC HH pads to work great...no smearing, nice feel...talk to lunatic! :D

Oh yeah...if you're NOT comfortable doing it yourself and your dealer HAS been good to you in the past,I would use them! Not ALL Harley dealerships are "bad"!! I have one (actually 2..same owner), who actually love the Buells!! They have a new EBR 1190 on the floor!

yea im not a big fan of the lyndall golds. its a ton of brake dust and they dont stop that well(which i didnt realize until i bought a set of HH rated pads). I went with the hawk HH pads and they feel way better. im sure the ebc HH are just as good.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will probably go with the EBC HH pads. While I don't give a flying fudge about clean wheels, the HH pads seem to be highly recommended.

Regarding the 2015 dual compound Ebr offering, they are out of my price range a bit so maybe another day.

As for servicing it myself, with the $180 for a rotor, the $50 for the hardware, the $50 for the EBC HH pads, cutting costs on install would be great. Not sure what the dealer would charge, but probably more than the cost of a triple tree stand (~$70 + S/H). If it truly is simply unbolt, rebolt then I might just tackle it. Just don't wanna kill myself is all. :)

Lunatic, PM sent.

I have Galfer pads in mine and I like them a lot. I'd also recommend changing your brake fluid as well. I put Motul 5100 in mine.

I can't say anything bad about the EBC's I used before, but I can't seem to find the GFA pads for six piston calipers.

When I changed my rotor, I found the mounting bolts to be quite difficult to get to back out. I think heat did the trick, but I'm not positive.

So I think I'll order a front stand and do the work myself. If I decide to do this, ya'll will help me when I fudge something up, yes?

Thanks again!

we're here to help but this is brakes...this is your life, son. do NOT remove a single bolt or drop of brake fluid until you have one of us walk you thru the process. it is not complicated but unless done correctly can be catastrophic. i'll be happy to help when you're ready.

Thanks lunatic!! These were my thoughts also! I just wasn't sure HOW to tactfully say it! Oisterska...lunitic is ONE of the most knowledgable guys on here....I'd hate to see you get yourself hurt! Take any advise and input he can give you!!

by God wiggle, that deserves a thumbs up rep point coming your way. thanks for the very kind words. only reason i know these braking systems well is that i do one at least 2X a week. thanks again my friend.

You're welcome lunatic! Although we've never met, I can tell by your posts and demeanor, that you're "real"!! I do see some posts on here and see people doing or trying to do things they really shouldn't be! I'm all for the learning and 'go-for-it' attitude, UNTIL it becomes a safety issue! Guess I care about people too much?!
