Well I've been full circle - sporty, dyna, ultra back to jap (zx11) now just traded that in for a 2007 yellow Buell Firebolt XB12R, 2100 miles. I've always thought they were cool looking but when I test drove it this last Sunday, I had to have it. It has so much character even though it's about half the horsepower of my now ex Kawi.

It's bone stock for now.

A couple of questions; are they normally cold blooded? It wanted to stall taking off from a stop. Also, a very slight backfire once in a while. Is that fairly normal as well?

OK. Before anyone yells, I searched and found the answer now that I've rephrased my search question. The stock ECM has crappy mapping. It happens below 2k. I'll get another ECM right away.

welcome.

Change your plugs over to iridium and change plug wires to
this.

new filter..yadda yadda you've owned alot of bikes you know what to do:D

Welcome to your new addiction! Lots of info and great people here.

If you decide on some axle sliders to protect your new toy or a new front pulley cover look me up!

yes,yes and yes
congrats and welcome to buellxb.

My bike had similar issues with backfiring, stumbling etc.... I changed to NGK iridium plugs (the 9's, one heat range colder than oem) this made a HUGE difference. Fuel mapping is the rest of the answer I believe.

Thanks for the welcome. From the reading I've done this evening, this seems to be a mature bunch of riders (I didn't say "old"!) with some great information.

I will pick up some iridium plugs tomorrow and remap the fuel mixture soon enough.

Looks like rain tomorrow so I'll have to spend the evening going over the bike, setting up the suspension, changing fluids etc.

Welcome I too love the yellow Xb12R, you really dont see to many of them, thats a good thing. As you mod and personalize your bike i would try to stay close to the color scheme. Just my opinion. When you first slap a pipe and a catch can breather re-rough on the bike it will be acting all shitty until you tune it to the new air flow changes. Did your bike come with an after market pipe and or did the person selling it mention to you a breather re-rough??
if so he may have started and never finished the job. If not and you are going to add an after market pipe or have your pipe modded then you should just wait to tune it until you put the pipe on and do a breather re-rough. Then get your new EBR ECM or remap the old if possable.
if its going to be a year before you get an after market pipe then you can play with your mapping but i wouldn't. Your problems are not that bad. If I were you i would talk to someone with an 07, who knows how to do all the mapping so they can walk you through it. A lot of the years are different.

Welcome to Buell world! It's completely addicting. I have no clue how anybody could only clock up 2,100 miles in 4 years! I do that in 3 months during riding season, and there are many other riders who do way more than me!

When I bought my 2004 bolt in Sept 2010 it had 3300 miles is all

youll enjoy your new baby for sure. its just made to ride is all i know to say. oh yeah welcome adn all that stuff

Isn't awesome to buy a Buell with such low miles? I got my 05 in 08 with 3200 miles. It was like getting a brand new bike [up] Congrats on the find man!!!

Thanks again. The bike is completely stock so i get to mess with it first. I'm a huge technogeek so I'll do things as i learn. I did order an LED kit for the gauges, new grips, right side air scoop and a new front brake light switch. My friend works at a foundry so he's snagging me some kind of thermal insulation for me to fab a heat shield.
