i have been interested in buell since day one, but now i have a fever for an adventure bike and i want a ULY. i really want a 08-10 model. but would consider an older one for the right price.

as a new to buell owner what kind of things should i look for in a bike when i buy? i know sportster engines well i used to run a few of them locally. but i know there is some other things to look for.

i am having the hardest time finding a blacked out bike, this is really what i want but hey i just wanna uly.

thanks for the time fellas

08-10 Uly fairly rare bike. all Ulys really are wonderful machines. very comfortable, incredible torque, anvil reliability, ease of maintenance and much more. they're getting increasingly tougher to find a nice low-mileage one that has been taken care of. mine is an 07 and i love it...especially after i tuned out the incredibly annoying low speed surging. be prepared to comb evilbay, CL searchtempest, cycle trader and travel for one if necessary.

nice ride man,.. i found a 2007 with buell luggage, two seats and two windshields 3800 miles for $6800 but i think thats a bit high?

its a one owner clean ride.

also found an 08 with 4k miles for $7500 but i think thats high too... the ad only says 2008 buell 4k miles AS-IS... kinda scared of short ads where the AS-IS is the biggest part of the ad?

I have an 08. Not for sale now, not ever. BUT I can highly recommend them. Amazing machines. Any Buell is but the Ulysses really speaks to me. Look for the XT version if you want more of a tourer.

I wouldn't worry about color. Plastics are easy to find. Surging can be tuned or just hit with a RACE ECM sledgehammer. That was all related to emissions.

The engine in the Buells is.. not your average sportster lump. This thing makes 103 horses from the factory and enough torque to make you GASP. Buells ride like nothing else. They have quirks... I'd almost call them the Saab of motorcycles... but you will never go back once you've owned one.

Be wary of fleabay. Vehicle transactions are non-binding. You have VERY little recourse if someone tries to screw you.

street: what lotus said above and just make up your mind you'll travel 10 hours round trip in one day if you have to. the closer the better but if you take something that averages 20mpg and you average 60mph you'll be using 3 gallons an hour. 30 gallons of fuel to fetch one is about $100 fuel costs. if that 2007 you mentioned is what you really want offer the guy $5500 and work him from there. it sounds like the XT model where mine was the X...no luggage. they are wonderful bikes and one of the finest all-purpose cycles ever built. where r u located, son? i'll look around here in southern PA if you'd like me to.

I just bought one. 2007 2300 miles $4900. No bags, no extra's but basically new. To bad your so far away there is a pretty good selection here in Utah. Might be worth shipping one. Check ksl.com

That surging drove me nuts. My 08 did that to the point where it wasn't fun to ride. And hot starts were weird too. Now - with the Race ECM approach (and of course you can just tune it too - no real need for a Race ECM) it runs like a freaking train going downhill. Unstoppable. It runs a tad rich in fact and I like to call it "fuel cooling" when someone asks me why it smells rich. Which is TRUE but not many people know that its possible.

ooops, sorry.

next time i'll read the post instead of trying to help a guy out lol.

well....... i secretly like to have a CR but the ULY will fit my style more and also fit on the back of my welding rig so i can haul it with me. the 07 i was looking at is a nice (real nice) bike. i just dont know about 6800 tho... NADA has it round high 5's,... so the 5500 offer sounds like a legit one. also its the X and he just bought and added the bags and extras.

im currently working in atlanta, ga. i live in north alabama tho....

thanks for all the input fellas i hope to be rolling one soon.

SteetGliderX, I was exactly in your spot. I spent 3 months searching for an 08+ XT. I was nearly about to fly to Colorado and pay a Stealership $7900 for one with 10k when one appeared within 4 hours from home on CL. An 08 with 5100 miles for $5500! I didn't haggle the guy 1 red cent, took a Thursday off work and drove down with cash! It was dirty, unridden, flat tires and had a dead mouse under the seat. But I swear, it's the single best motorcycle I've ever owned and quickly becoming an obsession! I hope you get one soon.

shame on you! you stoled that Uly.

streetglider: try searchtempest for craigslist. don't know what part of the country you're in but looked on searchtempest this morning and alot of really mint condition Ulys in the midwest...slim pickins' on the east coast.

Hey guys I just saw one on St Louis Craigslist .
09 XB12XT with 6k miles for $5395 . Would have bought it but I just got my O9 XB12X with 3800 miles for $5500 Does seem to surge off idle some but what the heck ? I love it anyway

yeah im located in the south east.... found one 08 in TN for 7500 4k miles.... wonder if he will take less?... he hasnt responded to my e-mail in over 3 weeks? oh well... yeah im gonna keep shopping cause i would love to have one

I've got a 2007 XB12STT. See the pic. 5700 miles. It's the same thing as a Ulysses but with 0.40" less ground clearance. As you can see, I've got Touratech luggage mounted. I'll sell the bike and deliver it for free within 200 miles of Statesville NC.

I installed Pazzo levers, a MadStad adjustable windscreen, front and rear wheel sliders, GPS mount, LED rear signals, Drummer exhaust, Scott washable oil filter and K&N air filter.

$6,500 with clear title and no damage.

Since your used to Sportster motors, here is a good bit of advise, if its not leaking don't be worried its not out of oil? its normal for these bikes NOT to leak:D

any more pics late rider? and mark i hear ya,... mine never leaked till i opened em up and tried to cram more horses in them,.....
