Anyone see the 2 new harleys coming out, a Street 500 and a street 750. Suppose to attracted the younger crowd. I say bring back Buell, they seem to attract all crowds.

I just saw this today tried to do some research on it but couldn't find a picture.

Ugh.....
ugly

Although nice to see a liquid cooled, affordable harley.

They need to come out with a sporty looking bike. Even if it's not a sport bike, a sporty bike. The sportster is ok, but outdated.

The 500 Harley was a necessity for Harley's riders edge program. The buell blast was the bike used for their classes and with it now being discontinued for going on 5 years a large number of these bikes are in a bad state of disrepair.

I know the riders edge sites have to be happy for a replacement bike and hopefully this will fill the shoes of the blast nicely.

HAHA:

Separate aluminum cylinders are fitted with pressed-in iron liners, and the only difference between the 500 and 750 versions, which share a 66.0mm stroke, is the bore. The 500’s is 69.0mm, which makes for an actual displacement of 494cc. The 750’s bore, at 85.0mm, makes for a displacement of 749cc. Redline for both engines is 8,000 rpm, and peak power for the 750, though not officially announced, was said by one Harley rep to be 54 hp at 7,500 rpm, with 44 pound-feet of peak torque arriving at an unspecified rpm. A single balance shaft keeps the V-twin from shaking too much, and a six-speed transmission works with Harley’s familiar belt final drive.

Well, good for HD, I guess. Although I'm amazed that they were able to make a 500cc bike weigh so much (480lbs!). The Buell company was always a forced marriage anyway.

At least now all those mindlessly brand-loyal HD riders will be able to spend their whole riding career, from starter bike to geriatric trike, without risk of ever having their unimaginative asses touch an imaginative bike...

with the blast most definitely. The MSF got paid a TON of money by Harley Davidson to raise the maximum cc of a training bike to 500cc just so they could get the blast certified for training and get their Riders Edge program off the ground. This has been one of Harley's best sales tools to date. The dealers never liked that they were using the blasts in the classes because it was too much of a departure from what they were trying to sell (heritage, Harley lifestyle).

ever since the blast has been discontinued, I've seen how the dealers have been sweating it out waiting on a replacement bike. This may not be the bike for the average person but it may be a fantastic sales tool to get people on a Harley and keep them on them as they grow as a rider.

I remember not too long ago, they offered a deal where if you bought a buell blast, they'd buy it back from you for whatever you paid within a year as long as you traded up to a bigger bike. We may see them running a similar deal on these bikes in the future as well.

Go get a Honda Shadow if you like these new bikes. Neither of the two are exciting. Like a Honda Odyssey mini-van, or a Briggs and Stratton 20" lawn mower. [down]

What a lame bike to attract even lamer people. They really had something going with the Buells.

Cycle World is reporting that Harley believes these new 'Street' models will boost sales in foreign markets and manufacturing will be done in India.

Hmmm, I can certainly see the allure of these massive emerging economies for Harley, but I fear they've miscalculated the market. Motorcycles are not status symbols in places like India & China like they are in the West. They are generally regarded as utilitarian appliances for the poor, and therefore any self-respecting member of the growing middle-class with the money for a Harley will aspire to something with 4 wheels instead.

Perhaps for their own sake, Harley's marketing machine will be able to create the international demand they'll need to sell these things, but I'm skeptical.

Domestic sales, on the other hand, I'm sure will be better. I confess that I'm already imagining that 750 stripped-down as a little urban cafe-racer!

fugly...and it's a lame attempt to get lemmings to buy into the shitty branding that is all things H-D

Sucked in to all the "my shit don't stink cause I own a Harley crowd" . Soon those dealership's that have been pricks to me and my Buell will have a new crowd to serve that frequent Mcdonalds instead of pubs . My money wasn't good enough when I bought my bike and aftersales service sucks lmao ya wankers when you have to sell these.
:D
