The heat shield is a great idea, I had to do this also, but you are money ahead to header wrap both primaries like I did, saves alot of paint and aggrivation later on.
I have had my fairing lowers on my 1125 for about a month, the header finally burned through the heat shield. I strongly suggest header wrapping your headers if you do this.
I think it definitely looks good! I like the naked look of the firebolt but I still can't understand the 1125r fairing. I'd be pretty into a whole kit that replaced the whole upper fairing and side pieces so the front end wasn't so wide and high.
