Hello

Been researching this site for weeks leading up to a potential purchase of a 2004 XB12R with 16K miler for $3400. Bike is perfect, never dropped/wrecked. Rides great and no apparent mechanical issues or noises. Owner uses Amsoil oil All original. What other things should I look for

thanks for any help to steer me ini the right direction.

Sounds like a pretty good deal if its really clean.

Here are some things i'd want to know.

-has the rocker seals ever been done (known to leak)
-Fork seals, newer clutch cable, if so when was it done?
-stock ecm or mapped? check out the air filter.
-Last time the plugs where change
-intervals between oil changes
-check condition of all drain plugs!

just some small things I like to know before I hand over the $$

Good luck and post some pics if you decide to jump on it.

The usual, my list usually comes together similar to the below:

Aftermarket parts, do they have the originals? If not it usually means they broke it somehow.

Cracks anywhere but most importantly, frame, swingarm, triple trees.

Condition of the forks (do they look as though they were cared for or was this a wheelie machine for someone).

Preventive maintenance is most likely the most important so ask about what they did and when. If it was done at a stealership paperwork is a must IMO otherwise assume it wasn't done.

Tires are a good indicator of how the bike has been ridden (Chicken strips, flat topped, burnouts, Stored outside etc...)

Air filter is a good one to check/ask about, you can tell a lot about a rider by their air filter.

I have an 05 XB12r bought it at a little under 10K for $3300 or so I believe so you may have some wiggle room especially with riding season moving its way into the latter stages.

Just take a good long look at everything on the bike and ask yourself if it's supposed to be that way and if it isn't why is it.

Just an FYI and this is just my opinion and how I do things so it may vary from person to person, when I ever purchase a vehicle, anything that is done even remotely regularly maintenance wise gets done prior to any real use. It's just a safety net for your investment.
