Just picked up a 2003 XB9R. It is bone stock at this time. I am hoping to do an exhaust on it at some time, but wanted it to be at bit loader till I decide what I want to put on it. I want to cut the outlet pipe out and was wondering if any one has done this and what to expect for performance loss. I don't expect it to be as load as my Softail but would like to hear some sound out of it.

Sorry but it's louder, and loud! Aside from that welcome. Why chop it up? Get an exhaust.

Not sure how to post actual photo on this forum. I tried with photobucket don't know if it worked. Just not wanting to drop $375 plus on exhaust right now.

Members sell exhaust sometimes, just post that your in the market or search the forum!

You're looking at $200-1400 for an exhaust. Even used.

I know of 3 right now.
Dan Moto $300
Factory race $400
Spec ops $250

It has 7000 miles on it now. I removed the reflectors put new NKG plugs changed oil and primary fluids adjusted clutch and pprimary chain and reset tps and afv

UMDterp13: I emailed Dan Moto recently and they don't make them anymore. Unless you meant someone selling them. I've been looking for a few months lol

The stock muffler has no exhaust packing (well a tiny bit in the front) and uses sound waves deflection to reduce noise. When you cut it open or cut a hole it makes it sound very blatty and annoying. I don't recommend it. I have built about 10 mufflers playing around with the acoustics and reselling the ones I didn't like. Using exhaust packing really makes a nice deep rumble. Outlet size, placement, and length also plays a factor.

Just built two last month and got a stocker waiting to be cut open. It is not hard to modify the stock muffler but it takes time. I have shown several builds on here over the years.

I POR15 my last several builds so I want to run them for a while to make sure the coating won't burn off before I sell one of them.

May be interested in one of your builds if the price is right. I would not think POR 15 would work to well with heat.but not sure only used it on frames.
