I'm new to this forum, not new to the Buell though. I'm on my 2nd Buell and it's a 09 XB Firebolt that is stripped for track days.
My first Buell was this 2000 M2 that a friend bought new. I rode it once and fell in love with the handling and brakes. I bought it in 2004, I rode this bike hard and the only trouble I ever had were top end oil leaks that were a once a year repair, I went trough a few different aftermarket mufflers and became tired of the junk that lasted about 2 months so I built my own muffler from a SpinTech race car muffler. A little quieter than the aftermarket junk and better power everywhere. I also did the flat slide carb swap and that was a big improvement. About 2010 I sold this bike to my Godson and he proceed to destroy the engine from miss-shifts. I kind of miss this bike

Last year I picked up this 2009 XB. When this shot was taken I had only rode it a few miles as the Pirelli's were kind of square. Its quit a bit different than the M2 but I like it very much although the muffler sure has this thing plugged up. I plan on the same type of SpinTech but now they make a smaller version that will be a better fit under the XB. I sure hate the front brake though, the feedback is horrible and it's hard to feel the grip level under braking. I stripped this one down as soon as I got it home. I went to Colorado to buy this one as it only had 5k miles on it and the dealer that had it gave me a very good deal.

Sweet pics!

Believe it or not, the brakes you have on your 09 are an upgrade compared to the six piston caliper on my 07.

What type of pads are you running? As you probably already know those, and tires, make a big difference in feel.

This bike still has the OE pads. I used to use Ferodo on my race bikes but not sure if they have a soft compound for the 8 piston Buell brakes. I'm running Dunlop Slicks right now but will likely be runing Pirelli Slicks next season. Anyone have a good recommendation for front pads post up here please.

O gawd
Don't mention OIL!!!!!
:D

While the are not horrific, I really don't like the tires on my Buell. They are not as aggressive as the Diablo Rossi II's I had on the bike before this one.
I also loved the Scorpion Syncs on my XB9SX.
I guess I am a Pirelli guy. They just inspire additional confidence.

This Bike just see's slick tires, Pirelli, or the Dunlops so there is no need to open a debate. Same for the Oil, I'm an oil dealer. I'm old and set in my ways so no worries, I just use the same oil in my 1290 KTM and that makes it easy to keep in stock.

I'm looking forward to possibly buying a new 1190 Buell as a track bike in about a year or so. The price is nice.

Hello Hazardous welcome to the forum! What track was that photo taken at? it looks really interesting and i always wondered what it would be like to ride my Buell on slicks so they really transform the handling and lean angle stability obviously?

This is Thunder Hill in Willows California. I've been racing cars here a little over 10 years so I know the track well. They just added another 2 mile section to the west that also connects to the east track. I'll be on the full 5 mile track in June for the first time. I'm looking forward to being on the new section.
The slicks don't really change anything about the bike other than grip level, but they do last longer as a track only tire.
My first day on this bike at the track I had Dunlop Q3's and the rear started to a separation problem so I went to slicks. The Dunlop guy was at the track and gave me a fair deal on a set.

This is not a cut. It is the same on both sides. The rubber bond has yielded. I'll say this, I buy all my street tires from Jake Wilson online and they stepped right up and replaced the tire right away after getting the go-ahead from Dunlop.

Welcome Hazardous! Would definitely enjoy hearing any track adventures you'd like to share. Enjoy the Buell!

submax, come on down to and join us for a track day at Thunder Hill, Z2 or Fun Track Days.
April 22 it was supposed to rain and I didn't want to drag my trailer so I left the Buell at home because of the slicks. So I brought my new KTM, all the gadgets you can think of. I set the chassis in sport mode, engine in street mode for smooth power delivery, and traction control on. Humm, what the heck, I had a big 200 foot slide at about 100mph, set me down nice and gentle, slid on my ass and hands and the bike slid across to the opp side of the track. I got up and couldn't figure this out as the T/C has worked real well in the street. Anyway, I was supprised how well the bike held up. It suffered about $1000 worth of damage. I'm glad the plastic tank didn't get a hole worn through, they cost 2K. So much for gadgets . This thing is fast though, about 35mph over the Buell on the front straight and the short back straight behind the pits about 45mph faster.

Thanks for the info hazardous and looking at that tyre chicken strips are not a problem! We have a problem on here called chicknstripn but thats a totally different matter! ha ha ha :black_eyed: :eagerness:
