when am i suppose to change my tires. i've heard i should change them in pairs also. ive got 6400 miles on my bike so far and i havent felt it slip on me yet but there is a noticable void in tread along the center of the tire thats about an inch or two wide. im goin on leave next month and dont wana spend the money unless i have to. should i get new ones now or when? Power to the Buellers!!!

Check your 'tread indicators'. Inbetween the tread grooves you should see what looks like mold leftovers. When those are even with the rest of the tire, it's time to change.

Typically you change your rear tire twice as often as the front.

Also, tread wear really depends on the tire. Hard compound = longer life. Soft = SHORT.

Hope that helps.

I only get 3000-4000 miles out of a set so if you have already gotten 6400 that is pretty good also they are probably coming to the end of there life.
If it is starting to look slick probably in the middle its time or if you see cords showing it is time. Hope that helps

I got about 7000(ish) out of mine, but the belts where showing when I changed them. I was told 4-5000 depending on your riding style.

I got 6600 out of mine but the previous own was easy on the bike it hit all the wear indactors in the center. my front had trade but was hard being an 05 and was cupping (getting bumpy)
I ended up replacing both with dunlop road smarts seems every shop here had them in stock i walked the rims in and had them mounted and balanced for $350 OTD.
There a dual compound hard long lasting in the middle and soft and stick on the edges i got close to 1k on them and they seem great.
Be sure your shop actully has a balancer.
and don't risk a flat on a trip imagen a tow bill and be at the mercy of buying what ever they can get for tires.[mad]
