I am new to buell, have wanted one for a while, got an 08 xb12r. It has aftermarket exhaust.I am going to order the k&n filter for it, and race ecm. My current question is the fan runs when I cut the key off but doesnt run when sitting there idling, is this normal? Is there still anywhere I can get a RSS?? Thanks in advance for any and all help Im sorry one more question with the k&n should I do the airbox eliminating kit??

Your fan sounds normal to me, that's how my 04 12r is. there are several RSS versions available from ASB (American sport bike) With the Open Airbox, you don't need to, sort of user preference, but you will get more airflow by doing the open airbox mod. Lots of guys just take a dremel to theirs and open it up themselves

the fan will always run after u kill the power if the engine is hot enough; it will run when riding too if the engine is hot enough;

the rear cyl lacks cooling which is why the fan kicks on; try to find the right side air scoop

got my RSS from surdyke HD online. not sure if it's still offered. it's from the ulysses rider comfort kit. theres an inner and outer if u get the comfort kit scoop. total of around $60.

the fan turns on at 180 celsius when the bike is running, 150 celsius when off. my bike's usually in the 140-160 range, depending on the weather. sometimes it comes on when i kill the bike, usually it doesnt. before the RSS it turned on after kill even if it was 50 fahrenheit out...

PS welcome to the forum! Enjoy your Bolt, I sure love mine!

Fun fact the front cylinder actually runs hotter because of gravity and the angle its at. take thermal imaging to it sometime you will be surprised. I thought the same thing that the rear cylinder was hotter.

This is where I got mine. Price has gone up a bit but he has them in stock. And yes your fan sounds as if it is running normal.

Welcome to the forum. You came to the right place!

The open airbox is kind of up to you. If you have an 08 your airbox will already have a couple holes cut into it. Opinions go back and forth as to whether there's actually a benefit to getting rid of the inside cover all together. I think the biggest reason to do it is if you have one of the transparent airboxes because it looks cool. If yours has a solid color airbox, you're probably not going to notice a difference with just leaving it how it is.
