Wanted to say hello. My new xb12scg is my first buell. I bought it in may of this year after a long search for the right bike. Did some internet searching and found you guys and gals and i figured i would join in.

Quick question? I noticed after a ride yesterday that had oil coming out of the fuel vent valve hose. I am new to v-twins and was wondering if any of you had this happen to you? Is this normal for buells? [confused]

I just wanted to welcome you to Buellxb. With all my searching this is the most informative and friendly forum you will find. As for you oil issue, Im relatively new to buells as well so I don't know if this is a common occurance. Some one will get to you shortly I'm sure about this.

Welcome. Shouldnt be oil coming out of the fuel vent unless there is oil in your gas tank (highly unlikely). What year is it?
Once again, welcome to this crazy thing called owning a Buell.
Some people are going to tell you you should have bought __________ (insert what ever here). Some are going to tell you that is the coolest bike ever. No matter what they tell you, just know that they are checking out your ride and you have been noticed. (unlike on a run of the mill Jap bike.)

dave_xb12r this bike is new, 09 actually. It is also the first buell i have ever owned. As for the hose it comes of from a check valve located at the upper right corner of the airbox and runs down the frame and out behind the driverside footpeg. I have noticed excess fuel and vapor comming from this hose. That is what lead me to think it is some kind of fuel check valve. I am headed to my local dealer today to drop it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that's the fuel tank vent hose I've had it happen to where I've filled the tank and parked it and the combination of the sun hitting the frame and the engine heat <because it sits btwn the frame which is the fuel tank> the fuel expands and gets vented out the hose just fill the tank to the bottom of the lip and you'll be ok =P

strmvt thanks for the tip on the gas leak. Any idea why i would be getting oil out of the same tube ? It made puddle about the size of a quarter.

dave_xb12r i am 100% sure it is not fuel and it has a very oily residue and apperance of motor oil. I agree with you that this is odd. Being that particular hose is for fuel tank vent i would have a hard time seeing that it was oil. But i just wanted to see if this residue was a normal ocurence with buells or v-twins in general? I live in Tenn and bought the bike locally so i am about 90% sure it isn't a CA bike. Is there something particular about CA bikes that would help me identify if my bike was one ?

There would be a charcoal canister emissions thing under the seat, toward the rear.
If you really love your Buell, then you'll taste-test the splooge.

Just kidding.

I'm just throwing this out there: I wonder if your bike has had the breater re-route mod done to it and the oily residue is all the crap from the heads.
