I am n R1 rider. I LOVE Yamaha and wouldn't have it any other way. I do respect genuious when I see it. I loved some things about the Buell, like the outstanding design.
I am military, and my wife and I are having our second child. I am wanting another R1 since I don't have a nice ride right now. So, as I'm looking, my buddy sees me on craigslist looking for R1's, and askes if I'd like his Buell. I laughed and said, no, I'm good. He said he really needs the money, and I'd be helping him a lot. He told me a price that makes me thing twice. If I'm getting this good of a deal, should I get it?

The bike is a 2007 Buell Lightning 12. I'm not sure of all the rest (S, R, SS?) I know it's red, with two little headlights upfront, not the projection headlights. It has about 9,000 miles. It has been kept outside (since he used to live in the barracks). He dropped it once, but fixed it.

What do you guys think it's worth, and do you think I should get it??

its been down and stored outside! so depending on condition it could very from 3500 being poor to 5500 for perfectalso whats been done to it

Go take it for a test ride with the suspension se for your weight, and decide that way!

Let's say I get it for under $1500. Still good deal, in my book. I just don't know if the bike is going to make me happy. I'm pretty excited, though. It might hold me off till I get a good deal on my dream R1

With a clear title and no damage to major parts great deal! Hell even a salvage title isnt that bad!!!! As long as it's mechanically sound!!!

Definitely a steal at that price! I know you said he's a friend and all but why so cheap? Worst thing that can happen is that you ride it for a while then decide to sell it later.

I'll tell you that an XB12 is a whole different experience than an R1. The XB12 has a much lower rev limit but it has really good usable torque around town. The red-line takes some getting used to for most coming off an I4. If you're looking for the top speed of an R1 you're not going to find it in the XB...Just not that kind of bike. Have you ridden the XB yet? You should but make sure you get some substantial seat time on it before you make your judgement. They are a great bike for what they are designed for. I think you'll find it more comfortable than the R1 and most say the Buell's handling is second to none.

Good luck and thank you for your service![up]

Get some pics of it when you can and we can give you more feedback on it.

I trust this guy, and I know that he just needs some cash in hand. I live about 12-15 miles away from work. I can tell you it's not going to be out of 3rd gear, and that means it's not going work it's limits. Most people only use 25-50% of the bikes limits. If I were in Jacksonville, again, I'd for sure get an R1, since I know I can open her up. Here, It's going to be around town put-puttin, nothing fast. I barelly get on the interstate, so I might now need to go over 75, so I'm not too worried about it.
I'm just happy to ride again.

thats what you say now,im about 5 miles from work and mine gets rapped out in 5th every morning.

As much as I'd like to, the traffic here, added with MORONS who litterally can't drive and don't look out for bikers prohimit me from riding over 40 MPH. The speed limit is from 20 (in my neighborhood) to 35 Main street, to 45 long stretch to the Navy base.

If you can get that deal grab it, are you stationed on the West Coast by chance? I've got an 07 R1 I can sell you, get the Buell and I'll give you $3000 for it as long as it not salvage titled.

I'm pretty sure your buddy could have the money instantly if he posted it up here. It's a steal at $1500.

Yeah, he could sell that thing in 10 minutes no doubt. I would buy it if it were near Minnesota.

He's not going to sell it to anyone for 1500. He needs the cash, and I've constantly helped him, so he's rewarding me, I guess, lol..

Alfa-Tango, I'm stationed in New Orleans, I just looked at 3 R1's this past weekend. I had a 03 LE, and a 05 Raven. The ones I looked at were all 07's. Didn't get them, though. This deal might be too good to pass up.

Stop talking about it, buy the damn thing, and post up pictures :)

How long have you been stationed down there, and whats your rate?
