I am not new to Buells, I have owned two Uly's in the past. I bought an 06 X model in 08. That lasted about 2 months before being hauled off on a tow truck with more damage than I paid for the bike. Luckily I was not hurt. What made me want to buy another Uly is I reconnected the instrument cluster(was about 20 foot from the bike...) and it started right back up. Then I REALLY liked the XP that came out in 09 so I bought one of the only two that Ray Price had gotten in. Owned it for a few months and had to sell it due to money issues:( I sold it to a guy locally that was looking for that exact bike, he ended up with a great deal. Around the 8th of Jan I traded my 06 V-Strom 1000 for an 09 XT model. I really missed being on a Buell! Some mods were done before I got it, but since then I have added a triple tail bag, and tank bag. Got a couple other things coming in the mail any day. I also bought a Garmin Zumo to mount to it with the XM antenna. Ready to ride around Raleigh/Fayetteville when the weather clears a little!

IMO the dual-sport thing really caught on here in America when riders discovered the joys of the BMW GS and the Kawi KLR650. then Suzuki joins the fray with the V-strom models several years ago. for my money the Uly, the GS and the big-bore V-strom are 3 of the most entertaining, most versatile, most comfortable, biggest bang-for-the-buck motorcycles in history. then you have Peter Egan espousing the joys of the Uly and next thing you know, Uly prices are sky-rocketing and Buell is shuttered. clearly it will never happen but if H-D brought the Uly back to market and kept the price reasonable with identical driveline and cosmetics to the 09-10 models, they'd easily sell 300-500 a week worldwide.

Agreed!...that's why I'm hoping EBR will produce a similar bike by the end of this year or early next.

Sly, not saying I don't agree with your sentiment but how would that work when HD owns the basic engine? Anything less than the 1200 air cooled V-twin just wouldn't deliver the same torque, right in the power band where you most want to feel it. I think the Rotax would be an untamable beast on anything but hard pavement. Unless EBR made the ECM able to shift from sport to street to enduro modes like the Ducati Multistrada S? But then it'd be another $25K rich guy's toy.

I think Eric is smart enough to stick with his proven niche and not let himself get suckered into a saturated segment where he has to compete without a price advantage against well capitalized competitors.

High performance engines are tamed in many difference applications to suit street use.

Its kinda funny, because the first Uly I purchased I had traded a KLR in for. I wanted a dual sport so I bought the KLR after looking at them, Yahamas and Suzuki DR's. I dont really consider the Uly a dual sport because of it being so heavy, but thats just me. I would consider it more of an adventure touring bike, like the GS(which I would be afraid to take off road due to price). So far I added the bags like I stated, hardwired the GPS onto the bike, and took it for a few more rides. Have only put about 300 miles on it or so since I bought it. I figured out I think I need to raise the bars a little for a little more comfort and visibility if the GPS where I mounted it. I want to take a long distance ride if I can handle it and I think the Uly is going to be the bike to do it if I can. I thought the Vee would be but never really rode it enough. 4000 miles in 3+ years. There is really a lot more fun factor on the Buell for sure. This one seems to be a bit faster and stronger than the previous two I rode. There is the race ecm and the Jardine exhaust on it I think is making that difference. I do NOT like the exhaust but with the race tuned ecm I think I am going to stick with it for now. Any suggestions on a quieter muffler that still gives the performance?
