So...I'm considering learning to ride, and I'm not to interested in chrome. I do love innovative technology, and low end torque. So I really like the Lightning motorcycles, they seem to be exactly what I'm looking for.

A local dealer has a used (demo) 06 XB12S for $7,699 in the color that I'd like.

So I have a few questions. Is that priced right? After completing a riders safety course will this cycle be a good choice for a new rider?

TIA

How many miles on the demo, Thats not a bad price for a dealer but you may do better on a buell board or something like E-bay or Craigslist, look up the blue book and see if its close.
Yes after you take the riders safety course you will be good to go with the 12s. Just take it slow and ride within your abilities, a good rule to fallow is only ride to 80% of your ability and always ride like no one can see you.

Seems like a decent price, I've found blue book to be completely useless. Your best bet would be like gator said, check craigslist, cycletrader, here and other Buell boards to see what the bikes are going for. I got my 06 xb12Ss with 500 miles for 7K total (included all the BS..tax, title, etc) But...I bought mine in January of 07, I think dealers are more willing to negotiate when theres a foot of snow on the ground, and their showroom is a ghost-town :p

According to kbb $7060 is the starting price for a dealer on that year/model. I don't know how many miles are on it, they don't have that info listed on their website. I'm planning to get out there this week to take a look, and start the negotiations. I'm planning to ask for Riders Edge course to be included in the price of the bike. ;)
As far as the $/mileage any ideas about where the miles should be at that price point? I'm going to bring the kbb sheet in w/ me, and hope it's useful as leverage.
Thanks for the input about the 12s. I'm under the impression that these are very well balanced machines, and am mostly concerned about the throttle/braking responses. (as stated I've never driven a moto before) I just don't want to be looking at a bike w/ wild throttle responses (my car is turbo'd so I've learned to be patient w/ inputs), or brakes that over perform.

I drive my car like nobody can see me, and plan to keep that habit while on 2 wheels. I never want to drive/ride at the edge of my limits, and always want a machine that can outperform me.

Good luck with the purchase.

Unfortunately when I got there today they were like "What 06 xb12s are you talking about? I don't have any on my sheet. Let me go ask...Sorry it's been sold, they're going to remove it from the website ASAP."

So we proceeded to look at new bikes, and he gave me the contact info for their rental manager. Apparently he is expecting a large shipment of exec-demos to arrive just before the HD 105th to be rented and then sold. So I'm going to call him tomorrow to see if he can give me any specifics.

Oh and after sitting on the different models, I think I'll be looking for a XB12Scg...
