hi everyone

i am thinking about upgrading my 05 sx here pretty soon and just had a few questions about the ECM. If i add a slip on exhaust and air intake will i need to modify my ECM? Or will i need to install the race ECM? will it do any damage (run so lean that i burn up my motor) if i add one or both of these mods with the stock computer settings? I have been reading these forums for a while now trying to figure this out on my own but am still a little confused. Do the newer buells adjust on there own after running them for a while? Can someone sum this up for me??? thanks!

you can either purchae a race ecm or get an ecmspy cable and tune your factory ecm. If you look through the postings about tuning im sure you will find a tune that you can start with.

is it absolutely necessary to modify your ecm when making these mods or will your buell still run good, just not to its full power potential?

If you do both exhaust and intake you will need a new map. If you do one the ecm can adjust enough but any extra it will not be able to completely compensate

Is the EcmSpy program as indepth and complex as the Safe tuning guide suggests? Does the race EMC do a pretty good job at tuning with a new intake and exhaust? And is it worth the money?

His nike is an '05 so i believe it wont learn on its own.

eaglesandravens Race ECM's are expensive and hard to get. You can just reflash your stock ECM into a Race ECM with ECM spy. Its as easy as plugging into your bike and uploading the race map. Program is free and cable is around $50 bucks on ebay,

onelouge you must have done that on a cell with auto complete/correct... nike? my cell phone changes ecm to becky LOL

Yes...it can be found. The new instructions are also out (version #2.xx)

With changing both the intake and exhaust...yes, if you desire it to run....properly, the mapS (more thAn 1 map!), need to be changed accordingly.

These engines like a fair amount of ignition timing also. Since you don't mention the year of your bike...a lot of timing could be added or a small but significant amount of timing should be added....just depends on the year of the engine.

Go to the "xoptiinside" web site and ask Mike where to get the program.

Mike

the race ecm isn't difficult to find. you can get a preprogramed one at erikbuellracing.com for $250 you wont get as good of a tune as doin it custom but alot easier and should do the job quite well if you dont want to mess with programing it yourself.
