royal purple .20w 50 at the auto parts store is safe to use in bolth the motor and primary it said for 4 cycle motors just double checking
to answer your question =
NO NO NO NO
PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT..
if you use royal purple make sure it is royal purple MAX CYCLE , it is designed for motorcycles engines and trans/primary.
DO NOT use regular Royal Purple for automobiles is not designed for motorcycle and will ruin your trans, because of the friction modifiers in it. it will also not last long enough in the engine , because of the high temps the air cooled engine makes causing VERY VERY FAST thermal breakdown..
automobile oil doesn't have all the extra chemicals additives that motorcycle engines need for things like extremes of HIGH temps, speed of internals, etc... expample=Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 contains 25% more anti-wear and anti-oxidation additives than the equivalent traditional Mobil 1 automobile oil.
therefore automobile oil can and will thermal breakdown alot quicker than MC designed oils.
every engine in cars ,trucks and street legal motorcycles is a 4 cycle type engine, meaning they have 4 strokes , the 1intake, 2compression ,
3combustion(aka powerstroke), and finally the 4exhaust stroke. but thats where the Similarities pretty much end and the need for different oil formalations for different uses,& purposes, i.e , temps, speeds, needed and not needed additives.
make sure it made & designed for (4 stroke) motorcycles .
and/or recommended for air cooled motorcycle engines.....
make sure it is for WET CLUTCH USE for in the primary(trans) or you could ruin your clutch very QUICK
guess i need to rephrase this
Make sure the oil you use is (and says it on the bottle)
design for motorcycles, and design for a 4 cycle motorcycle engine, not a 2 cycle(2cycle/2stroke I.E like some off road dirt bikes or chainsaws weed eater type engines that use oil mixed in the gasoline) not oil for regular 4 cycle 4 stroke gas engines ..ie regular cars and trucks .
I dont mean to be an ass I just dont wont some to ruin their engines or trans, i beleive it also says this in the owners manuals and service manuals, if an emergency you can use diesel oil.If it is necessary to add oil and Harley-Davidson oil(or your MC prefered oil) is not
available, use an oil certified for diesel engines. Acceptable
diesel engine oil designations include CF-4, CG-4, CH-4 and
CI4. The preferred viscosities for the diesel engine oils, in
descending order, are 20W-50, 15W-40 and 10W-40.
otherwise use motorcycle oils.
Make sure the oils you choose is designed for MOTORCYCLES .
