Hi,

Have had the 1125r for a few weeks now but have not ridden much. I have the feeling I have no first gear... or at least first feels much too high.. like 19 mph in first at 3000 rpm? Does that seem normal? Or 23 mph in first at 4000 rpm? Seem to have to slip the clutch so much to get started. Thoughts?

I do know where first is in case you were wondering.. and i do seem to have 6 distinct gears.. second is definitely higher than first. I can push it up to sixth when the bike is stopped. Haven't been able to check that on the highway as it is raining today.

That sounds about right. My first redlines at 48-50. My gearing is different since I have a CR but that is probably right for an R. I have a friend who has an R and went to CR gearing and said it makes it have a lot more bottom end. The R gearing is geared for the track so once you hit the 4-5000 range you are gonna move. According to a dyno day I went to with the CR gearing causes the torque to hit a lot earlier compared to the R so you are just feeling those effects.

So its not over looked, clutch adjustment and cable adjustment are possible factors, might have a slight slip even though it feels likes its grabbing

Edit: im not familiar with 1125s just making a general statement.

I got a 08 1125r and your speeds are right. Are you new to the 1125? It took me a bit to get used to it just keep riding and you will get the hang of it I only slip the clutch when wanting to go 15mph or slower.

1125's are hydraulic clutches so no adjustment just make sure there is no air in the system by bleeding and you are good to go. Sounds like he just has to get used to the gearing and he should be good.

I think trying to get used to a new bike and a new car in the same week was too much for my brain. THe shift patterns were all scrambled up in my mind. I just needed to rev it higher when letting out the clutch. Had a long ride yesterday and it was fine. I kind of "remembered" how to drive it. But amazing what a different personality the 1125r has from the XB12. for two similar looking bikes that share a lot of features.

Really like the 1125r.

Thanks for the comments.

Oh yea completely different beast. Sometimes it takes me a few bounces of the limiter and the feeling of the lack of torque for me to realize I'm on my XB. I'll tell you what though throwing the 1125 through corners then going back to the XB it feels like a light dirtbike getting thrown around the corners.

Yeah I miss the Harley rumble but that Rotax is a beast. My buddy (with the Sportster) kids me that it sounds like a snowmobile, but I'm getting used to the sound and starting to like it. And the handling is very different. I find it feels lighter than the XB, much more willing to dip into the corner.. anyhow.. having a ton of fun.

Thats interesting that it feels lighter. Maybe it's because you had the XB12. I wonder what the weight difference is between the XB12 and the XB9. Throw an exhaust on it and it won't sound like a snowmobile anymore. I have a Barker and whenever I go anywhere and start it up people jump back wondering what the hell just happend.
