I have been reading all the posts regarding my problem and still don't know what to do. I just bought a 2004 Buell Firebolt XB12R. It ran great until i installed the Jardine Gp1 exhaust. I have had a tremendous loss of power and my top speed is now 80 MPH. It is running way too rich because i am spitting unburned fuel from the exhaust pipe. I assummed since i opened up the exhaust it would run lean but that is not the case at all. My local dealership said that it needs tuned. they sound like they have no clue what actually needs to be done. they said i can not reprogram my stock ecm and that i would have to buy one or a power commander or a fuel pack. they dont know because they say something different everytime. i have been reading this site about doing it all myself and i still don't get it. Every link i try to click on in these threads are closed down or something. i just wanna get the cable, get the program and get to ride before it starts snowing again. i am in Green Bay Wisconsin, can anyone help me out?

you can buy ecm spy cables off of ebay they are legit. You will be able to custom tune or load a "factory" race map. Make sure to reset the tps. and if you have been running that rich prolly a good idea to change your plugs.

you need to do a TPS reset and check the plugs for sure you may have closed your gaps and are not getting the proper spark on top of the needed TPS reset[up]

Yep^^^^^^^^ sounds like you have a fouled plug. Get the spy cable and I will give you a good fuel map to get you started.

While you're waiting for a cable read up as much as you can. Download the Version 2 manual off of ECMSpy.com and read up. Here's the ECMSpy download so you can familiarize yourself with the layout: ECMSpy Download

we are here to help you fix this your self.

One issue is the Jardine on a xb12.

not the best choice IMO. proven from many many days on the dyno.

Its great on a xb9 but lacks umph even when tuned on the xb12.

Trade it off or sell it and pick a different pipe IMO for this bike.

Get dyno runs of different pipes. different throttle position runs not just wot.

Pick a pipe that matches your riding style the rpm you ride in. If your going for a certain look well then you can tune the rt to the bike but dont expect a lot...
I have plenty data to help you and or anyone else.
beware I am taking summer classes so I may get bogged down a little getting the answer.

Sounds likely that you are running on one cylinder since it is spitting raw fuel. That makes since why you lost so much power too. Change the plugs and check to make sure your wires are seated good on the coil. It is highly likely when you did the pipe, you knocked one of them loose and didnt realize it. Check it out and let us know. Also do the TPS reset when you get a chance, but fixing the dead cylinder will help you right now. YOu can also possibly just pull the plugs and spray them with carb cleaner a few times and put them back in to try ti. I would avise going ahead and changing them out with new iridiums though. But make sure you check both ends of the plug wires. they will come loose from the coil easily. They may look like they are on, but push them on all the way to make sure. Yes it is very tight in there, but if you pull the airbox base so that you can see them and bring your hands up form under the frame, you will be able to tell if they are all the way on.

it didn't make sense to me that the performance changed that much. it would make sense that i fouled a plug and am running on one cylinder considering i lost half of my power. thanks and i will try that today.

I actually ripped my bike apart last night and changed both of my plugs. it was a success! i am currently running on two cylinders now but the bike is still running rough until i can get the cable and figure out the program to adjust my ecm. thanks for the help.

I think once you adjust your tps you should be back to normal. Then it just a matter of the tune.

i havent reset the tps yet but when i start the bike my rpms jump around and my exhaust pops and cracks. once the bike is warm it runs like a dream! Should the tps fix this and can any bike place reset this or do i have to go to harley? thanx for all the help!
