And now it's unridable again. :(

I was torquing it with my torque wrench... I think I need to get my wrench re-calibrated [confused]

Wow....... Sorry to hear the bad news. I myself try not to use a torque wrench on anything other than head bolts of an engine unless it's a big ass bolt/nut that truly needs it. Too many times I've seen things broken due to bad specs by the manufacture.

That's funny I' a bike tech for a living and I have never had that issue with bad torque specs from a manufacture, when have you had this issue?

I haven't yet on a bike, but it's prob because I don't use a torque wrench...... I can also say I have never had a bolt break, something come loose, or fall off because of the lack of using one. I have on the other hand broken, stripped, and bolts on cars trying to do things by the book and using a torque wrench ( DOHC Dodge neon........ended up using timeserts on over half of the camshaft retaining caps). Soft cast aluminum is not a place to be using a torque wrench.......... We already know what following specs on a drain plug will get you on a Buell.

Oh god... I'm curious what the tq spec on the drain plug is...

manual says 26-29 ft lbs.that has pulled the threads on many bikes.
i tighten mine hand tight and a 1/4 turn.and a little dab of weather strip adhesive on the plug just for peace of mind

[up]. Same here. 95% of the things I tighten are snug + 1/4 turn.

[up] on the drain plug. Wish i knew before i pulled the threads out. Sorry to hear u still cant ride. Ive been out for a month with a month to go recovering from a torn achellies tendon. Its killin me.
