thanks much. appreciate the kind words. i thought the production footage and comments from driveline engineers was incredibly interesting. just supports the general consensus that in spite of 1957 platform architecture, hydraulic lifters and pushrods, air-cooled tech, and the rumor mill.........that these are nearly bomb-proof motors with a ton of engineering behind them and superb build and component quality.

these are nearly bomb-proof motors with a ton of engineering behind them
In spite of its antiquated & modest beginnings, the XB motor must surely be one of the greatest in motorcycling history. Not for outright power output or innovation, but for Buell having made the best of a less-than-ideal situation when HD forced that lump on him!

^^^^^ well said as usual GO. purportedly erik buell was given 2 choices by the corporate machine that is H-D:
1-here's your lump. if you need more reliability and power then find it yourself.
2-wear a Willie G. style Pirate Costume to all shareholder meetings and trade show extravaganzas.

fairly clear he went with #1

I'm not 100% sure about that 'forced upon him' statement. He was running Sporty based engines long before he actually was 'owned' by Harley. He has been quoted as saying; "water cooling is not a necessity if the engineering is done correctly". But...non-the less....the XB engine IS *one* of the greatest 'modern nostalgia' engines ever built. (The EFI 302 Ford engine was one of the last ones as well. The 5.0L H.O.). IT is the ONLY reason I ever had an interest in the Buell....I was all jap before that.

^^^^^ hey chuff....how are ya son? i also noticed that on the same page as this vid....to the right...is a guy named tom doing a buell 9xb city cross review. that is the illustrious "gloomshadow" who i haven't seen on here in ages. perhaps the keyboard-beating he took on here over his legendary "lithium battery review" ran him away? :D

Poor Tom , but you can't keep the gloomshadow down he will return. Not to change the subject but looking at the first sunday if not raining. By the way you can call me Rick . I am doing great brother.

rick: let's all plan on that. how about you get something started.....only if not raining. perhaps all buell pilots meet at the sheetz at I/S of 772 and 272......the brownstown sheetz. pick a nice early time so we can all arrive, say our howdy-doos, remove entire exhaust systems and arrive at first sunday enmasse with flames spewing from exhaust ports? would be pretty damn awesome. get on this rick and count me in.

I'm not 100% sure about that 'forced upon him' statement.
I read an article interview with Erik in which he described pleading with HD for a new motor. The one in the V-Rod was supposed to be it until HD management decided it needed to be visually bulked-up for use in a cruiser at which time he just went to Rotax for the 1125...
