I was thinking about this the other day. Like every other bike owner out there I can't resist walking through a showroom looking at bikes, even if they are brands or types in which I have limited interest. Although I can honestly say nothing makes me want to even think about replacing my Uly or my Harley Softail, I do think about what else I'd have in my stable if affordability weren't an obstacle. And, with over 30,000 on my Uly odometer, I do wonder what I would do if it suddenly got too expensive to be my every day ride. I thought I'd post a thread on it and see what other members here think would be their next or replacement ride.

For me, if I had to replace my Uly, I believe I would go with the new KTM 1190 Adventure. From what I read, it does almost everything my Uly does, is better off the beaten path and is faster. Also, being a newer design, it's more up to date with rider suspension and engine management selectivity. But I hate the thought of giving up my belt drive for a filthy chain I have to clean and keep lubed. Coming in second might be the Ducati Hyperstrada which, although smaller in displacement, has similar horsepower to my Uly and also has rider adjustable suspension and ECM on the fly. I think the BMW R1200GS would be a distant third, mostly because they are so damned expensive to buy and own and the rest of the pack of Japanese adventure bikes are way down the list.

If I were keeping the Uly but seeking to add something new to the stable, I believe it would be the 250 CC Yamaha Dual Sport WR250. But I also would like to have a comfortable tourer. Lots of money to be spent there, though and I really don't know what I would end up with if I went that route.

Those are my thoughts. What about the rest of you?

6'4" guy near me sold his 08 Ulysses & bought a grom. He rides it everywhere sent seat to seargent first day he bought it. He has a bunch of little odd ball bikes. Yamaha super tenere or whatever as well.

I have 06 R6r, sportster & a honda rebel :) makes up for any non buell needs I come across.
Sold a '10 R1 & '08 gixxer cause I had no need or desire to go that fast & track days were limited

I worked at a dealer, got old after a few months, I'll say that. Was cool to meet different people every day tho.

He must look like a giant on that thing!

Id be very interested to ride one just to see what its about.

Ya, I think my buell needs are over. Im meeting a guy to look at his 750 gixxer. I may venture iff into the world of jap bikes for a while.

Life's too short to be stuck on any one bike for too long.

I've had a couple Beemers & while you might be right that the up-front cost is a bit higher, I've never found the operating costs to be significantly more than anything Amarican or Japanese I've ever owned. They are also VERY well-built to last & take abuse.

#1 On my list is a Ulysses to add to the stable. I've mainly focused in on finding a bike I can travel on and the uly has been it for me lately.

As far as other bikes go, there are a few that have done it for me lately. I love the EBR SX, the new superduke, tuono and the mv dragster. They're all great looking bikes in my opinion. I've even thought about an XR1200.

The only Japanese bike that has really sparked my interest lately has been the FZ-09. There are some Italians that tempt me from Aprilia, ducati and Moto Guzzi. Hell I just like bikes. :D

That Brutale Dragster would be at the top of my list, right next to the BMW S1000R and Ducati Streetfigther. :D

I want a bored out grom. Those things are so much fun. I WILL OWN an S1 at some point. Those are absolutely gorgeous bike when done right. And hopefully oneday i would like to get ahold of a Suzuki RGV500 or an RE5. Preferably the RGV though. Im really not impressed with most of the newer stuff coming out. Anytime the word "comfortable" or "smooth" or any electronic rider aids are mentioned I am immediately turned off from the bike. Thats just not what motorcycling is to me. To each their own though. A lot of new models are impressive bikes and gorgeous machines for sure. But just not quite for me.

And I must admit I occasionally miss the scream of my old R1..... But the 1125 is definitely a keeper.

Dude at the riding school we attend has a Grom, he's really fast on it too. He got sick of dudes (primarily in pickups with H-D stickers) yelling out windows about how 'cute' his Grom is, so he wrapped it in a pink Hello Kitty themed vinyl wrap. Nobody has said shit to him about it since. It's seriously the coolest bike I've seen in a long time.

Hmmm, good question. But you can't have just one car (or truck) for everything either.

I ridden a lot of different bikes and I'm always surprised how my preconceived notions are typically wrong after living with it for awhile. You should ride one for awhile before you buy anything.

Lately I've been building late model Sportsters into Café racers. Way more fun than stock, easy to live with (fuel injected, finally), and guess what I jump on when I need to get anywhere in the city? Hint, it's not a Road King.

The next keeper will be a big MV Brutalé, '08 up Lightning Long, CR, Monster S4, or a 1290 SuperDuke.

Windshields are for cars:D

I put honest mileage on the CR this year. Hitting the 10,000 mile mark soon. If I had a bike, which I am pondering over the winter, it would be a Ulysses or Firebolt. The Ulysses is winning though since it would give me the option to ride 2 up comfortably with my wife. The CR is fun but I hate leaving her at home.

My wife wants to add another Harley tot he stable. My only problem is that makes it another four or five years before we can afford another bike for me[confused]. She wants a Dyna Fat Bob. I really like the way they handle but all the Harleys are so lean limited, about all I want to do on them is cruise and we already have a Softail for that. But she has her heart set on a Fat Bob so, Roberto Gordo it will be.

At least I can enjoy the looks she gets from the twenty something guys as she scoots by, pigtail poking out of her helmet. :D
