Not worth it. When they say it will raise the octane lever 3 pts (just as an example) they mean .3 so you will go from 92 to 92.3. The only benefit you get is making your wallet lighter.

you will not damage anything but IMO it is a complete and utter waste of your hard-earned cash. a good quality 92-93 octane fuel from a station that pumps alot of it...meaning their fuel is fresh...is all these bikes require.

I was under the impression that it meant 3 total points. Didn't know it was .3. Thanks for the input guys. I might just buy a little $5 bottle to give it a try if it won't hurt anything internally...just my wallet ever so slightly haha.

Why would you need octane rating of 96 even if it did work? We are only running 10:1 compression. This was a piston I had in my raptor 660 it was 12:1 and it ran fine on 93.

Now in my racing kart I was running upwards of 14:1 compression and ran methanol with a nitro mix.... that needs it..... new car technology has proven in the past ten years you can build a car with high compression around 12:1 and still run 93 pump gas or even straight ethanol if you have it local .... a lot depends on your camshaft timing as that is really what determines your compression.

^^^^ That piston is a whole hell of a lot cleaner than the one i had in my 660. When i was in Kansas, the only thing you coule get was 91 octane. with the carb jetted and fresh pipes and spark arrester, it ran like a scalded dog. of course that led to many many more issues. Namely my block headed attepts to ride controlled wheelies.

Jamason that was a picture when I was building the motor.... and yeah mine ran strong.... we had a hill that was about a 1/4 mile long and about a 20* grade..... I could top the hill at 65mph .... she was nasty I could be any stock 450 no problem

The only additive I add to my fuel tank is every year when I fire it up after winter ill add some seafoam to the first tank of gas. I don't use fuel stabilizers or anything else. I really do believe that seafoam helps clean shit out though.

honestly I would just go to your local performance shop and ask if they sell race fuel or if you have a local airplane strip in your city and buy some of their jet fuel and run 50/50 Every now and then. This will definitely clean your combustion chamber. Along with you enjoying the best performance your bike will ever have. Just don't make it a weekly habit because that high octane fuel is NOT CHEAP.

why would high octane clean your combustion chamber? a high octane fuel has a higher auto-ignition temperature. if you dont have an auto-ignition condition you dont need higher octane.

Do not run Jet Fuel in your bike. Jet fuel is closer to diesel than it is to gasoline. In fact, you can run diesel engines on it just fine.

The old days of AVgas having like 91/96 100/130, that stuff is mostly gone. 91/96 worked well in older high compression engines. Your options now are mostly 100 or 100LL. 100LL is 100 octane, low lead. It still contains lead, just less than 100. I'd advise against running it in your bike also, as it will fry out your O2 sensor rather quickly.

Use 91 octane fuel or higher. Honestly 93 is a lot better because these are pretty much just air cooled engines and run hot, the hotter they are the easier it is for detonation/preignition to occur. Higher octane gives more resistance to this. Using something higher like 96 octane is just a waste(and will actually reduce power slightly, and cause carbon build up).

From everything I've read octane boosters essentially do nothing.

You don't want to go through the hassle of running anything other then gas..... get the mixture off and your burning pistons. If I was off even by 5% on my methanol nitro mix it would destroy pistons.... ran like a sum bitch though.....

Melting holes through tour piston is not cool..... getting horse power out of fuel is not the answer.... look into tuning and hard parts like cams and exhaust head porting.... your not going to get amazing results from fuel.

I stand corrected konarider94.. I have personally run 103 from time to time. just to see if there were any noticeable differences in the texas heat. All I have noticed is it does help with detonation when the temps get up to 100+. I don't run any fuel additives like lucas fuel treatment and all of the other available products claiming to help your fuel mileage and carbon cleaning. I've looked at my valves before I did a gasket replace at 32k miles and they still look great.

fact;octane only helps with detonation (ping), does not increase horsepower. An old guy told me one time if you want to go fast, spend money on gas until you can ride that bike wide open everywhere, then start buyin fancy parts!!!!! lol

Thats true if you are just talking about gasoline, but greasy was talking about a methanol nitromethane mix and that will increase hp. Old school hot rodders and drag racers would run av gas, methanol and nitromethane mixes. Now racing fuels can be readily bought with what you are looking for and mixed a lot more reliably. Vp racing sells all kinds of leaded and non leaded oxygenated fuels.
