Was reading about oil changing and read where someone said 2.5 in swingarm and 1 quart in primary. Where is the primary at.

Also what kind of oil filter can I use? Do I have to get it from a Buell dealer.

Here's the primary. You can find it on the left side of the bike.

You can use many, but I've used a K & N filter, part number KN-177, purchased NOT from the dealer, but from a local PeP Boys Auto shop

The gasket is at the dealership.Buy a few and keep them in stock.The manual will show you where and how to do it.

Not to beat a dead horse, I'll be changing my own oil at 10k rahter than the dealer using AMSOIL. I know 20w-50 is for the engine, what weight goes in the primary?

The majority of us just use the same 20W50 in the Primary with great results.

just make sure what ever you put in the PRIMARY is WET CLUTCH COMPATIBLE, and in the engine is designed for motorcycles (or diesels if you cant find motorcycle oil and have to have oil just change in 3000miles or soonerif you go this option.)

WOW.. how many threads are on oils(engine & primary changes) this month .... all the same questions .... not to be an @$$ but what is it first bike , harley dealer blues, cant remember from last year, no mechnical common sense , or import biker new to buells or vtwins or combonation of ??? or what ???


but i'm glad to see more people doing or trying to do their own oil & primary changes and other mechanical issues, but it kinda shows why hd charges so much to hd & buell owners for such easy things...

please continue too learn more about your vehicles you drive and ride. because sooner or later the only ones that will work on a buell is BUELL OWNER (or former buell owner).

The owner's manual is vague. ....and import crossover...

"owners manual" is not a complete source for maintenance it is for JUST the BASICS of your vehicle it should not be used to find info on how to service or maintain your vehicle it was written only as as means to show you how things work on your vehicle so that you can maintain it enough to drive and pay for it and to get you to bring it to the manufactures dealerships for service and maintenance.



THE SERVICE MANUALS and TSBs are where you find complete info on how service and PREFORM MAINTENANCE ON your vehicle, the service manuals are written for the technicians to use in preforming certain maintenance problems and how to trouble shoot problems and usually written in a manner easily understood for reasons being that the technicians dont preform all maintenance problems on a daily or routine basis , so they can preform something that have not ever done or very rarely perform.
